What does this sound like??

The carbs are freshly cleaned,gas is ATLEAST moving through the fuel filter and into the carbs,or seem to be.If I try to start the bike it just will not do it,it turns and everything goes and it's getting fire,but no start.
BUT if you spray gas into the carbs with a spray bottle(yeah it's a stupid thing to do) it starts and runs untill you quit spraying.
This bike is a 82 Maxim 650,and please don' tmove this to another section because I'll never get an answer and this forum is all I got.(I still don't know what wheels will work because my topic was moved to the "graveyard of topics section")
Anywho,if I can get gas into the carbs I can start working on my bikes's looks,and in a few weeks ACTUALLY RIDE IT!!!!!!!

You might want to try here for tech questions. I am on the XJ mailing list, since my FJ 600 is the same as the XJ 600. There are a lot of tech gurus there who are experienced with your model bike.

They're very reliable bikes. The mailing list is pretty big, and has many more members than the forum. If you need more help, the guys on that forum can probably tell you how to sign up for the mailing list. Be forewarned though - The list can have up to 100 or so e-mails per day.

It's very probable that your previous post about wheels did not get answered because, A. No one makes them, or B. No one here knows if they are made at all, because no one is trying to do what you are doing... For example, yes you can change the shaft drive to a chain or a belt, but it involves case modification and possibly machined parts fabrication.

People who know technical issues frequent the garage boards and try to answer questions as helpfully as possible. In addition, once your post is "Moved to the graveyard of topics section" a subject link still remains in the original forum you posted in, meaning it still gets the same amount of people looking at it from both posts.

In response to this post. Your bike is either not getting enough fuel, or getting too much air. Likely culprits for not enough fuel:
- Choke not open for starting
- vacuum petcock malfunctioning (Crack in the vac line) (Try the "PRI" position)
- float levels too low
- clogged jets (The tiny Idle control jets are notorious for clogging on these models)
- choke malfunctioning

Too much air ...
- large vacuum leak around the carbs
- Idle screw turned too far out

Thanks for that,I'll try all those that I need to,but you know it will be which ever one I try LAST!
As for the shaft drive,from what you said looks like it STAYS,I'm not getting into that kind of stuff,I want to get ride it this lifetime.

Oh yeah,just remembered this.My carbs have little spouts coming out of the top before they get to the block,three are capped,but #3 has a longer hose sticking out,is this a vac line that goes somewhere?

Yes that is the vacuum line which attaches to your petcock. I think you've found the problem. Not only is your petcock not working, but it's causing a hefty vac leak

If your bikes not fired up on the winter season, it's a good idea to get some stabile fuel additive ( discount auto / advanced auto ) put some in tank run it just before stopping for winter. Keeps varnish from building up in jets, needle & seats etc etc good up to a year if I remember right . Use it in all my stuff lawn mowers, leaf blowers, edgers , streetrod etc
1 bottle probably last 5-6 yrs

Careful, you know what comes out of graveyards, don't you? Zombies and ghosts and all manner of creepy, disgusting things. And none of 'em know where (or why) you can get spoked wheels for a 22 year old shafty...
