TIME

#1 Unread post by slimcolo »

Not sure where to post. I am having trouble with time. On the 26th my puter changed to non dst time. Contacted MSN and tech changed remotely time and said it was now working. Last night it did not change time like it is suppose to. THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM SINCE I GOT THIS PUTER IN 2006 (it has only changed time right twice in fall 06 and fall 07, wrong dates in spring 07 and spring and fall 2008) I added DST update in Jan of 2007 but only worked right once then went back to older change dates.

I posted here to see if anyone can help me as I have spent in the last week about 6-7 hours with this problem (HP, and MSN customer service, both online and on phone) and it is still not working. (MSN tech. Rahul Sharma, svc. num. SRX1083169113, said all was fixed and working properly this was on the 28th)

MY NEXT PUTER WILL BE A MAC or have a non microsoft operating system (before present puter I had webtv that worked a lot better before it became msn tv)

I know this is TMW but I have got help with computer before and microsoft help seems like :frusty:

You need to make sure you have the correct time zone set.

*edit I take that back. You may need to replace the CMOS battery. That would be a battery that looks like a large watch battery.

oh and when you replace it make sure you dont turn off the power. Unless you feel like going into the BIOS and writting down ALL the settings and then reentering them. You wont affect your computer buy replacing the battery with the power on. HOWEVER I would make sure you get an anti static wrist band especially if your on carpet.

Ever since our congresscritters decided to screw around with DST, this has been a problem with some computers. It sounds like you put the patch on, as needed in 2007, but it sounds like it might not be working. There are a lot of reasons for this. Could be a subsequent software update, or a file that got corrupted.

The easy thing to do is to tell the computer to ignore DST and just manually change the time twice a year. It takes about 10 seconds to do, which is way less that the 6-7 hrs. you've already wasted on this problem.
