Seriously though, straight pipes suck. They tick off everyone, and show them all how attention starved you really are. A slightly louder than stock pipe used with discretion can be alot of fun, without trying to prove to everyone that you are an "O Ring". Try having kids at night when some attention deficient loser makes a statement outside your house at midnight. Not everyone likes that crap....iwannadie wrote:thats more like it, i love that sound. i was next to some big cruiser today with straights and it was as loud as my car(supra 2.5" straights to 3" high flow exhaust). he didnt like my car though he kept pulling ahead of me to get away from the sound, must really like to hear his bike. i kind of like being near a loud vehicle get a wicked reverb effect makes a totally new combined sound.High_Side wrote:Straight pipes on a V-Max sound like a small block chevy. The FZX 750 has the same sort of set up as regards to handlebars as the Vmax, and where Dave has shorter arms he had to lean forward, which then in turn gave him a back ache, To overcome this issue, Dave put new taller risers on. His backaches are now gone, he also says the bike handles better, problem solved. And our bike still looks a cool mean machine

I'm not riding fast...........Just flying low!

I've been riding the Kawi zrx1100 all week, took it on a 5 hour round trip to the in-laws for the Fourth. I got back on the max tonight for the first time since bringing the zrx home and the handlebars felt like they were under my chin. I got over it after a minute, but they aren't as far forward as it may appear. There's no substitute for that v-boost kicking in, either. I'm amazed that much weight can accelerate that hard.
iwannadie, you said it reminds you of old muscle cars, and you are right. I'll go back even farther, it reminds me of the big, powerful fighters of WWII, like the P-51. With the stock pipes at anything over 3000 rpm you get a nice, quite low steady hum, nothing high pitched about it like the inline fours produce. Mine had a kerker 4-1 system on it when I got it and THAT made it sound more like an inline four. Different strokes.
This is probably the best sounding system I've heard on a max, and is the only thing I've heard that I would replace the stock for. I believe they are Dale Walker Holeshot slipons. Download the video from the link at the top of the page. This is how a big, bad, mean bike should sound... http://digivex.com/jetski/vmax/060403/
Try searching the completed auctions on ebay for vmax's, if you see one clsoe to you that didn't sell, contact the seller and see if they still have it.

A good friend that I ride with has had one for 10 years and has over 40,000 miles on it. The only problems he has had is a extremely minor coolant leak from the water pump which required a seal to fix (while he was in there he replaced the bearing also as a just in case thing) and he just took the carbs off and spent a week and about $400 in parts cleaning and rebuilding them. This was done because he had an erratic idle and not because it quit on him. The bike still runs like a scalded dog when you twist the throttle.
Try this site. They had several nice looking V-Maxes in the price range you mentioned last time I looked.

this has been talked about to death, its personal preference and no thing else. i like my vehicles loud, i dont care what anyone else thinks of it. its not a cry for attention either. yes i get kicks out of riding around late at night setting off car alarms and waking people up. i work(d) night shifts and try to sleep at noon with all the cars/people around i manage just fine. its a big world out there and if you think its out to make your life comfortable and quiet when you want then too bad for you. id prolly end up driving past your house once a week at 3am just to mess with you.High_Side wrote:Seriously though, straight pipes suck. Anyone riding past my house late at night just to wake me up is going to catch a baseball bat upside the head one of these days.iwannadie wrote:this has been talked about to death, its personal preference and no thing else. i like my vehicles loud, i dont care what anyone else thinks of it. its not a cry for attention either. yes i get kicks out of riding around late at night setting off car alarms and waking people up. i work(d) night shifts and try to sleep at noon with all the cars/people around i manage just fine. its a big world out there and if you think its out to make your life comfortable and quiet when you want then too bad for you. id prolly end up driving past your house once a week at 3am just to mess with you.High_Side wrote:Seriously though, straight pipes suck. Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

lucky i wear a helmet to take the hit of a baseball bat, even more lucky i ride with my 9mm on my hip And have that helmet to cover my face from any potential witnesses.Sevulturus wrote:Anyone riding past my house late at night just to wake me up is going to catch a baseball bat upside the head one of these days.iwannadie wrote:this has been talked about to death, its personal preference and no thing else. i like my vehicles loud, i dont care what anyone else thinks of it. its not a cry for attention either. yes i get kicks out of riding around late at night setting off car alarms and waking people up. i work(d) night shifts and try to sleep at noon with all the cars/people around i manage just fine. its a big world out there and if you think its out to make your life comfortable and quiet when you want then too bad for you. id prolly end up driving past your house once a week at 3am just to mess with you.High_Side wrote:Seriously though, straight pipes suck. As a reply to THAT, I will stick to my statement regarding attention defecit losers. I work nights too. Kids don't have the option. And too bad for all of us when your cry for attention creates new legistlation that punishes us all for your stupidity. I've been on this forum since day #1 and I don't think I have come across a more ignorant post yet. Congratulations.iwannadie wrote:this has been talked about to death, its personal preference and no thing else. i like my vehicles loud, i dont care what anyone else thinks of it. its not a cry for attention either. yes i get kicks out of riding around late at night setting off car alarms and waking people up. i work(d) night shifts and try to sleep at noon with all the cars/people around i manage just fine. its a big world out there and if you think its out to make your life comfortable and quiet when you want then too bad for you. id prolly end up driving past your house once a week at 3am just to mess with you.High_Side wrote:Seriously though, straight pipes suck. I'm inclined to agree with highside for the most part. I've seen worse posts. But, that's beside the point. I'm of the opinion that the people who feel the need to put the loudest possible exhaust on their vehicles are the same ones that have trouble satisfying a woman. Compensating as it were.
