All seasons are no match for snow tires. And they'd hate me up there, I do stupid "poo poo" like run summer tires in the snow. And make fun of the french.

The new law in Quebec is causing a tire shortage across the country.

my guess would be that law is the 6 years and out law? In my opinion its a very good law to help keep uninformed consumers safer. My tires were made in 2005 so they are only 3 years old.
Actually the new law is that absolutely all vehicles must have winter tires from beginning of December until end of March. That is causing a buying spree on winter tires and the manufacturers and buyers were caught sleeping on the job so to speak. Stores in Quebec have been buying up tires from all over the country so the rest of the country has a shortage.
uhh dont they realize that most tires sold nowadays are all purpose tires?
All-season tyres are a poor substitute for snow tyres if you get more then a couple of inches to the stuff, especially on rear wheel drive vehicles.

Riding home today, I paced an RCMP motorcycle cop.....god its good to live on the BC South Coast.
Always ask why.

funny I have been using all season tires on my van for 8 years now (thats frotn wheel) and that thing will plow through 2 feet of snow with no issues. I know cause I had to do it to get home as it was the "only" road open.

If I was just staying around the lower mainland I would just leave all seasons on the car. I can take transit and leave the car at home when it snows. The all season are fine for a small amount of snow.....when it's newly fallen snow...however it gets so wet that summer tires and all seasons have a hard time getting traction. It's not against the law to have summer tires in the winter here, but if you get stuck you can be ticketed. If you have innapropriate tires and cause others to be stuck or cause a collision you will be ticketed.

Anyway...I got 4 winter tires installed because I am going through the Crow's Nest Pass through Manning Park this coming weekend. ....it's a mountain highway that will more than likely have snow on it.

There are also a couple of mountians about 20 minutes away and to get up to the top the vehicle will need winter tires.

I suggest get a Subaru. Then it won't matter so much what type of tire you use. Just uh, give yourself plenty of time to stop.

I dont get it. I mean even my ford taurus went through 3 feet of snow when I lived in the UP (yes we would get 3 feet in less than 8 hours time) and that had all season tires on it. Hell I went on a snow covered 2 track after a fresh snow that a dude in a 4 wheel drive s-10 got stuck in and that little taurus of mine went through it like no tomarrow. Maybe its from learning to drive on sand dunes????

Course im not saying winter tires would be better for the winter just they cant be that much better. Even my dad, who used to always change the tires to winter tires on his trucks, now uses all season tires year round. Its not that he cant its just its not worth the hassle because winter tires arent that much better in his opinion (I dont have an opinion because I have never used winter tires). Never said they were not better just that they arent that much better.

Trust me, with NY finances being in the red our city or state will probably make having winter tires a new law so that they can fine all the people who don't have their winter tires on. I feel this way because of the way NYC is now going after loud pipes and not having to prove they're loud.

Happy birthday Guzzi.
