First Motorcycle

#1 Unread post by vandread02 »

Alright, so I'm 20 years old and I'm looking to buy my first motorcycle.

One motorcycle I have been eye balling is a black 2000 Suzuki Marauder VZ800. Would this be a good first motorcycle or is there one that would be better.

My spending cap is about $3,000. And to be picky, I do not like dirt bike-esque motorcycles. Mainly cruisers and sports.

Thank you for any help.

Hey bud, I started at 20 on the Suzuki Volusia VL800. Great bike for me to start on, but I'm a pretty big guy so weight of the bike wasn't really an issue either. (I'm about 6'2 and 290 at the time)
But yeah, I learned on it, put over 3K on it in the Colorado winter before I had to sell it, gave me a good basis to learn how to ride on everything else too!

First off, welcome!

As always I'm a large proponent of the Kawasaki Ninja 250. You didn't give your approx height/weight but I'm 6'0" and about 170 and it holds me like a champ. Gets fantastic millage, handles like a dream, and not enough power to get you into too much trouble. :P

Plus a ton of people like them as a first bike so they're easy to find and they hold their value quite well.

We had a VZ800 once upon a time, an '04. It's probably a do-able first bike, the power-to-weight ratio is pretty mild and it won't run away from you. Center of gravity is pretty low, that's good.

Thank you for the suggestions guys.

About me I'm about 5' 10" weighing about 190lbs.

My parents had 2 Kawasaki Ninjas when I was younger, and I remember they were fun to ride on.
