Wind noise - raising shoulders

I've just thrown money at a new Shoei RF-1000 and much to my disappointment, the helmet suffers from horribly loud wind noise (on my head, at least).

Above 100km/h, the wind buffets around the base of the helmet at a deafening level. However, shrugging the shoulders cuts it out entirely.

Are there any devices designed to cut down on this type of wind noise? Such as thick neck padding or shoulder baffles (hideous, I'm sure).

I've use the helmet only once for 1 hour and I'm debating putting it up for sale and trying another helmet.

My Joe Rocket jacket has a rolled collar that extentds into the area under the helmet, and cuts this noise alot. Do you wear earplugs? I found a pair of washable silcone based soft plugs...the kind with circle baffles getting larger as they go down the plug. They were at Walmart, and come with a cord to keep them together if you swim with them. I cut the cord, and have used them for almost 6 months. They are very comfortable, and very quiet, but you can still hear all the important stuff. All without the wind noise.

Yeah, I always wear slow-rebound foam ones. The jacket I have has no real collar. I will try to demo a jacket with a big collar.

When I installed my windscreen/cafe faring, wind was sneaking under my helmet, and the shrug was the clear indicator. That is why I went earplug shopping again. I had been using the silicon putty you roll up and spread over the opening of the ear. The DB rating on these new plugs is higher, and it did the trick. When I got the jacket for Father's day, I noticed further quieting. I'm confident you can lick this with some combination of these things. Make sure you leave enough wind noise to keep it fun!

They also have a windscreen that snaps across the chin area of your helmet. Kind of a 1/4 moon shape, horizontally.

That helps a TON! They come with the X11 helmets and just snap in. HUGE difference.

A lot of the wind noise simply depends on where the bubble is. If you have a shield of any kind there are different things you can do as well. There are different edging treatments to can add to the shield as well that will bust up the flow a bit.

Start with the under the chin net though.

Thanks, I've tried this since and it sounds much better. It came with the helmet, but I wrongly assumed it was simply a cold weather thing. I will continue to try minimizing the buffeting.

Wouldn't it be nice if dealers has an air tunnel or some type of booth where you could put the lid on your head and they would through 100km'h air at your face?

You could try putting on the helmet, ad running around the showroom really quickly??
