97 ninja zx7r stalling issue

#1 Unread post by 49cnt »

The engine starts, but the engine idling will sound rough and when the clutch engages, the bike will stall.
also... when the engine idle is rough, and clutch is engaged, engine will backfire from the exhaust, (for example: it'll shoot out blue flames with a loud popping noise) and then it will stall when I'm trying to take off.
but then.. it'll work like everything is fine.. IF I've sat there for a good minute warming it up til the idling sounds smooth.
It's a Kawasaki Ninja zxr 750/ zx7r 1997. It wasn't like this when I first got it a few months ago.

Any help would be so awesome. Thanks in advance. :frusty:

I'd start with a little maintenance first. Check and clean the air filter, and remove, clean and gap the plugs, then test them to make sure they all fire. Sounds like it may be a weak spark problem at low rpm on a cold motor.

Strictly guessing here, though....
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

 Turned out to be something related with the kickstand that was causing the bike to stall because there was this little button-like thingy that wasn't coming all the way out like it should've been doing whenever the kickstand was up until we sprayed it with some WD-40 and picked at it a little. Sorry for the late update everyone. But better late than never right?

i swear every single kawasaki owner (including me) has had the problem with the kickstand switch. you'd think kawasaki would have learned and fixed it between 1989 (mine) and 1997 (yours)
**1981 Honda cb750c** (for sale)
**1989 Kawasaki 454 LTD**
