92 Seca 2 Fuel Pump/Filter Question
I've been working on my 92 Seca 2. After cleaning out the carbs really well and putting everything back together the bike ran great. I proceeded to start working on the brakes.
After a few days (I never rode it, only started it, revved it and let it run for a while) it started to idle rougher, like it was missing a cylinder, then die unless the choke was on. Regardless of the choke position it died as soon as I gave it ANY throttle. Someone suggested some junk in the gas tank must have fouled up the carb again and told me to get a fuel filter in stat. I drained the float bowls, and number 2 was completely dry. Bought an inline fuel filter from Discount Auto and put it on. Now, I'm getting no gas at all. Took off the filter, lines all seem clear, filter is clear.
I looked at the fuel pump on my Seca, and there is a small canister attached to it about the size of the inline filter I bought. Looking at other 92 Seca fuel pumps on Ebay they don't have that (the UK versions do ??) When I look at the diagram I don't see that black cylinder. I don't know if that IS the fuel pump, or just a factory option or something, because it's actually bolted to the rest of the housing. I'll try to snap some pics later if that's unclear.
I don't know if the problem is from maybe having 2 inline filters together, which is inhibiting fuel flow, or if the fuel pump may be bad. Any ideas?

Okay, it DID have a filter on it already. Didn't look too terribly clogged, but I'll put the new one in it's place, replace the cut fuel line
and see how it fires up. If there's still an issue I'd think fuel pump. Does that sound right?
I've already replaced the petcock with a new one, so I know that's good.

No problem
I did check and both tubes are completely submerged. The tank is more than half full. Getting some input that when the bowls are completely dry there is not enough vacuum in the line. It was suggested that I open the drain screws and put the petcock on "Prime" until gas starts coming out of the float bowls, then there should be enough pressure. I'm going to give that a shot once I replace the fuel line I snipped for the filter.

Oh you have "prime?" Yeah, do that. But just don't leave it on Prime or the fuel will just flow and flow. It will fill the carbs and go into the cylinders and THEN you have a problem. Make sure you don't leave it on Prime for more than a couple minutes.

Hey Ron,
I just had this exact same problem on my bike and am still working out the kinks, waiting for my fuel petcock that you've already replaced. In my case it was dying when I put it in gear because the jets were clogged so you're probably going to end up doing the carb clean again.
Have you had a chance to look on the inside of your gas tank while it's empty and off the bike? Mine had a small bit of crud at the bottom and clearly hadn't been put in reserve for quite some time. So when I finally went into reserve my carbs got clogged, even though my inline filter took the brunt of it.
BTW '92 Seca's don't have a inline fuel filter, but as you've seen it's a great addition
The last few years seem to have come with them standard.

Well, worked on it again today. At least I got it started, it still dies when I rev it though
.
I found one of the screws on the carb was loose (the ones that cover the plunger for the needle jet), and I had two tubes routed wrong (the two that come from between the carbs and are supposed to go up into the airbox. I had left them sitting out. Probably no big deal, but hey.)
It idles well. There's virtually no change from choke off-1st position; it idles around 1000-1200 rpm. With the choke in the 2nd position it goes up to 4k, and that's after running for about 60 seconds. I can rev it when the choke is all the way out, but it sounds like I'm about to take off
. Otherwise it dies as soon as I rev it.
Here are my guesses:

Here are my guesses:
- The carbs did get gunked up again. The bike's only been run a complete total of about 5 minutes
.
- Fuel pump
- The air filter is still really dirty after being oil soaked for who knows how long. I cleaned it out, but it's still got a lot of residue on it. Don't know if that could be causing these kind of issues.

Seca II's only have a itty bitty change on the off-1st position, so that part is normalroncg41677 wrote:

On my Seca II if I crack the drain open I get a small trickle, not drops, and that was before I cleaned them. It takes a few minutes on mine if I don't have any gas in the carbs to begin with.
On prime are you getting anything out of the petcock (looking up system before the carbs to zero in on the problem).
