Brake problem

#1 Unread post by cyer »

I recently bought a 1981 Honda CB650 Special. It runs OK, but has a problem with the right front brake. At least once a week, the right front brake locks up after it's been sitting a while. This does not happen while riding it, only when sitting. I've noticed it happens both in the morning (first start) and after I've ridden it to lunch. If I bleed the brake, the problem is solved and works fine for a few days, sometimes only for a few hours. I'm considering replacing the caliper/brake assembly, but I am not sure if this will fix the problem. Any suggestions?

As a matter of fact, Cycle World has a letter in the tech section this month about this very same problem on an 82 nighthawk. It sounds like a compenator orifice in the master cylinder is blocked or plugged to them. Might wanna have a peek inside yours.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

i just recently rebuilt the master cylinder on my bike, works great...wasnt hard at all either. and i would imagine the master cylinder on your bike would be fairly similar to mine.
