Agreed, XB it might be the best bike for you, but consider the Suzuki DL650/1000 for example.
It is capable of going off-road, it's got plenty of power, perfectly comfortable for long-distance touring, and on a race track it's got so much cornering clearance that it does remarkably well.
Or the DR650/KLR650/XR650 family. Very dirt capable, very touring capable, lighter than your Buell, and better gas mileage.
I mean best all-around bike is a very very hard title to come up with, but like last year Motorcyclist picked the Kawasaki Versys because it's somewhat off-road capable, great for beginners and advanced alike, so far seems to be bulletproof, perfect touring seating position, great gas mileage, etc.
So while the Buell may be YOUR perfect bike, I'd much rather have the Hayabusa or FZ1 as an all-rounder.
Have owned - 2001 Suzuki Volusia
Current bike - 2005 Kawasaki Z750S

Maybe, but from the point of view of a Norton Rotary Owner you are running a tractor...

Humm, well, "the Best" could mean a lot of things.

Let's say it means reliability, cheap to run/insure/gas, parts are easy to find and inexpensive, can run forever and in any part of the world. Has adequate power and can manoeuvre in poor road conditions...

My vote is the Honda Cub.

Top Gear.

They did a whole series of things to the cub and it continued to run, if memory serves it finally failed after being run over by main battle tank.

The cub is marginally tougher than the CG,
