Uncomfortable seat

I ride a R1200R BMW and although the bike has been great so far, I find that the seat is uncomfortable on long rides. Has anyone used the gel or
sheepskin seat pads. I hate to buy a "custom made" seat for the bike since they are verrrry expensive. Help.

I've heard good things about the gel seats and air hawks. I'm thinking about getting something like that, though I'm also considering having a semi-local upholstery shop re-do the padding in mine. Told it should be around $100, maybe that'd be a viable option for you?

I have never used the air or gel seats. (but have heard good things about both) I have used several sheepskin covers. Besides being more comfortable the sheepskins allow air circulation. Make sure you have a way to secure them as you do not want seat cover sliding on seat. (the best is to get one that is fitted to your seat and held on by velcro or snaps) The longer wool (2-3 inches) are more comfortable, and cooler in hot weather than the short wool ones, but grab more water and dirt. Make sure you can take off in a hurry if it rains.

I have an F650 and it's seat is horrid too. 1 hr after riding & my bum is numb.

$125 to refit your seat custom. Only drawback is that you have to send your seat off for 2-3 weeks.

I'm hoping I can find a stock seat cheap to send off, then sell my extra once I've got the custom.

I've heard from several guys/gals that the gel seats are more comfortable for short distances but after a while they hurt worse than the stock ones.
The only solution I've heard of with 100% satisfaction is the sheepskin covers. Apparently it helps every seat out!

I have not used gel seat, but have heard its good response... But i have used sheepskin seat and its comfortable...

i've used a gel pad on top of the stock seat on my vtx, it's made a huge difference on both short and long trips, like it a lot better than the corbin i had on it before that.

Start eating more McDonalds and let your body create more cushion for you. Ok... that was dumb; anyway, I switch from a stock seat on my Buell to the "select" gel seat and it is way more comfortable. I'm not sure if it absorbs more of the vibrations or just molds to my bottom better... but it is defiantly more comfortable especially on longer rides.
