I start the BRC tomorrow

Tomorrow is the first day of the BRC for me. I'm a little bit nervous about the actual riding part. I know it was a bit foolish for me to do but I already bought a bike just because it was a great deal. I've had it for a week and have been tempted to get a licensed rider to go with me and show me the ropes but I figured I should wait until after the course. Hopefully all goes well and I get my license at the end of it.

If you can ride a bicycle, chew gum, and follow simple directions simultaneously, you can probably ride a motorcycle. Don't worry about the BRC, have fun with it. They break down the riding skills into very simple parts and take them one step at a time. If you listen and do as they say, you have a pretty respectable chance of success.

Your VStar 650 is a reasonable first bike if you respect its weight.

You're right not to try riding before the BRC - the instruction works best if they don't have to "unteach" you negative habits you might have picked up.

you'll do fine. they start you off so slow and basic that you'll feel fine by the time you actually start doing the exercises. i really enjoyed my class a few years ago.

Have fun - and meet people! And don't be like me - I didn't get contact information for anyone. It'd be neat to know how everyone was doing after getting their licenses and their bikes.

so true. i didn't think about it until i was on my ride home. then i thought, man it would have been cool to get everyones contact info and go for a ride together down the road when we've all had a little experience behind us. oh well. way too late for that now.

Today was a quick day we just went over a lot of stuff in the handbook. It's a little disappointing to find out that you have to wait 6-8 weeks for the license waiver to go through, I wonder if there is any way to speed this up. Still excited for tomorrow and Monday!!

What state are you in? In New Jersey the process is very quick. Course finishes Sunday, if you passed you walk away with a waiver endorsement stamp added to your permit. Take the permit to a DMV office on Monday and walk out with a motorcycle endorsement on your license.

(...... and I was in the motorcycle dealer showroom that same Monday evening, too!!

I just passed the class a few weekends ago. I had a really good time, even though the drills don't seem exciting I still had fun.

i too wonder what state you're in. when i finished the course they gave us a little card (about the size of a business card) that had all the info needed. i took that card, my drivers license and my motorcycles learners permit. i paid 5 bucks and had my picture taken, then walked out with my motorcycle endorsement.

it's crazy that you have to wait so long.

I'm in upstate NY, southern Adirondacks. I was reading through the FAQ for the class and it said if you pass they send the information straight to the DMV. They must give you some type of form at the end of the class and I think that and a permit would probably be good enough if I got pulled over for any reason. I don't expect to, I haven't been pulled over in my car my entire 7 years of driving don't want my first one to be on a bike.
