#1 Unread post by kuz »

Anyone have any experience with a modular helmet that has a built in flip down sunshield? My instructor at my msf course had one and I cant remember the make.

I know Scorpion makes a full face with a nice built-in sun visor, but I don't know if they have a modular.

Modular + built-in sunscreen: HJC "IS-MAX" model. I don't own one, but I do have the non-modular HJC FS-10 with the built-in sunscreen. Good product, works well.

What country are you in? I use a Caberg Trip. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/r2/motorcyc ... berg-trip/

Pretty happy with it. ECE and SHARP certified, dunno if there's a DOT certified model.

If SNELL certification is important to you, Zeuss came out with the first SNELL-certified flip-up:

I think Nolan makes one as well? The HJC one is pretty nice.

I've got the Scorpion EXO-1000. I love it.

Im in the US. Thanks for the replies. I've been looking on one of the big gear websites, and the only ones Ive seen are the Shark and Scorpion. I'll have to check the others out. Right now I have a full face Arai. For those riding modular, how do you like them compared to a full face? Does anyone know if there is anything out on the web that compares sizing between different brands to get an idea how something would fit without being able to actually handle it?

I used to ride modular, and two years ago I got a Shoei RF1000. It's night and day in comfort, and modulars aren't as useful as they seem, unless you wanna smoke or drink while you ride (wouldn't suggest either). If you can afford a Shoei, I'd do it.

edit: There's a website called helmet city or something like that. They have a chart that compares helmet sizes to the circumference of your head. Very useful.

Im pretty happy with my helmet, arai corsair rx-7, but what got me interested in the modular was the integrated slide down sunshield. I wear glasses and being able to leave the sunglasses behind and have something built into the helmet that can be used as needed is a big attraction.

Hmmm. If the slide down sunshield is what you want, and you're happy with your full face Arai, there are other full face helmets that have this feature. I've got both flip up and full face helmets, and I prefer the sense of security of a full face. I only use the flip up if I'm riding with a pillion or other motorcyclists (easier to talk during quick stops).
