Hey Everyone,
I have a friend in Yonkers, NY that purchased a Vespa scooter. It is a low cc low powered bike and it does not require an M endorsement.
The problem is - he was told by the dealer that he needed special plates - that only come from Albany and that it would take 5 business days for the process to complete.
So, this was all started with last Friday as the first business day. But at present he doesn't have his plates (he's got insurance and everything already).
He wants his bike (of course) and asked me to check on this - as I'd never heard of a special license plate process for vehicles that didn't require an M endorsement.
It seems weird to me - especially considering you can have temp plate on a car in less than 1 hour - that he should have to wait so long for a street legal vehicle.
Anyone been through this process - can you verify that this is correct or is the dealer giving him a bunch of crap - dealers already got deposit, and he's got to sign up for financing. But they had promised him the bike for last Friday and couldn't deliver because of this plate problem.
But if he bought a Vespa used from someone - had title and insurance in hand, he should've been able to get plates no problem, not sure what the hitch is because his vehicle is new.

Moped lisence NYS
Hi.
I licensed a moped last year in Greene Cty, NY.
I just poped into the DMV and filled the standard form. They never questioned it. Just issued a standard plate. It has different letters and the Registration is LMB not MOT.
Tell your friend to not listen to the dealer. Ask DMV.
Ride safe,
Pete

Re: Moped lisence NYS
Thanks man, I forwarded it on to my friend. Hopefully it all works out for him and there isn't something odd or irregular with the bike or something which is why the dealer is taking a long time to processes this.pchast wrote:Hi.

He says it is a standard dealer and there shouldn't be anything shady about them.
