i've actually been very fortunate that both of the bikes i have so far have fit in the back of my truck. took quite a bit of moving it inches at a time forward and back to get it at the angle i wanted, but they both fit. the toolbox/fuel tank in the back cuts the bed size down a good bit.

now, i don't expect everyone to understand that or agree with it, but you can't deny the fact that you don't need to be on a motorcycle to love what you drive or ride. i feel just as free in my truck as i'm sure any of you do on a motorcycle. this being a motorcycle forum, though, i prefer to talk motorcycles here. i apologize for the lengthy post about my truck.

I have a truck too (my cage). I rebuilt a really rusty 1967 Chevy long wheelbase pickup and I take a lot of pride in it too. It is used more by my brothers and family than I drive it but it's still MY truck.

I only tried to help. I feel I should of handled it better but I'm unsure how. I found this forum this weekend and I like it a lot. So I'm going to be here. But I don't want to feel that I am in some way causing you grief. So lets find a place where we can mutually disagree and let all of this go.

i don't have a problem with you, nor do i think you're not good enough to be here. it also wasn't my intent to make you, or anyone else on this forum, angry.

my post was just me stating that you don't have to ride a motorcycle to feel a bond that goes beyond driver and mechanical transportation contraption. i'm sorry that i wasn't more specific in my post, i didn't mean to direct it at you at all. it was a "you" in the general John Q. Public sense, not a "you" in the you-the-person-i'm-talking-to-right-now sense.

i tend to picture myself in situations in order to get my thoughts together and it has a tendency to cause a bit of intensity from time to time...or so i'm told.

i looked at those, DrEvil, and as much as i like the black and the rear fender i just couldn't buy into it. i actually looked at a lot of the sport cruisers because that's what i figured i would have liked, but i dunno.

and what's really weird is that i woulda definitely pegged me for the guy that would go after the fastest bike or the biggest engine or something that could be considered extreme in one way or another, but i just don't feel drawn to them.

i'm really starting to feel like i'm checking out personal ads with how much time i've been spending looking at dealer galleries on motorcycle pages. i am starting to consider buying one bike just for in-town and another bike for longer rides. maybe the Royal Enfield G5 Military for commuting and one of the other four for the rides out to grandma's or something.


tell me that wouldn't be the most awesome bike in the world to ride to work on a military base. and for just $6100, it really wouldn't be that big of a stretch to just buy that one outright and do some financing on the other.

Ah, em, guys, aren't you both going a bit retro here.

I've rode one of the new Royal Enfields without any expectations and

I fell for it hard. Yes, it wouldn't work that well for a primary bike but it sure would be wonderful for slipping through traffic. Of course that was AFTER I praised a guy for how beautiful his "OLD" Endfield was and how much I admired the a restoration job he had done. The SOB just let me go on and on, never telling me it was just out of the showroom .

Jaskc78, I can't live with just one bike. But I'm a bit strange that way.

Mike, what I don't understand is why the fasination with Urals. They are basically somethng my grandfather would have driven. They're good bikes thouugh I don't know how reliable they are because aren't they Russian? Also, isn't that bike a flat twin? Didn't know theey came in that flavor?

As for neat bikes for riding on military bases my friend has an original Harley 45 with a sidecar. He even drives it around to the shocked looks of the "norm". I would lovve to have a a military German R65 with a side car, I don't what I would actually do with it but it would sure be extreme.

Of course, right now I'm restoring an Austin Healey 3000 mkIII so I can't talk about (whispered) retro

That is what I was trying to point out in the Honda post. Everyone is different and different types of bike move different souls.

Whether intentional or unintentional, your extreme bias against Honda is prevalent in your post. That's fine. That is your opinion. However to state that one cannot bond with any brand other than the ones you stated is just plain wrong.
