I crashed in the BMW set up and they held up amazingly. I replaced both pieces with the same - courtesy of Progressive Insurance.

Speaking from experience, I would choose textiles. I had a full set of TourMaster textile riding gear with removable liners for cold weather. When I wrecked my bike 2 weeks ago at 60 MPH, the gear saved my life. It does need to be replaced now ( unfortunate, but imagine what would have happened if I hadn't been wearing it ). I got very minor scrapes to my left hand ( went down on the left side ) but that was from my gloves.

Regarding "replacement" - if you haven't already looked into it, your insurance may buy you new gear, if you've got "accessories" coverage. I also hear that in "helmet law states" your helmet is considered part of the motorcycle and is covered under the bike for replacement purposes after a crash. Wish I'd known that when I went down.

I got a scrape on my elbow from the edge of an elbow pad, when I crashed.

I'm actually a dog.

From what I gather from all my riding buddies here in the real world as well as folks I know online, I'm the aberration. There's a blag post swimming around my head about getting the right amount of venting in your gear for your bikes. I ride naked bikes and the vents on my gear is plenty for any kind of weather.

Makes things much easier to keep track of, too boot! No wondering where my keys or registration and insurance are.

no, i didn't have accessory coverage and PA isn't a helmet law state, so I'm kinda screwed there. but I'll get it all replaced before too long
