Thanks for your interest mgdavis
Thanks for your interest drumwrecker and I have managed to keep my three pennies in my pocket.... where they belong and yes steering is/was something I think my way through but looking where I want to go and just doing it is getting near.
Thank You Both
I signed up and paid for an MSF class but after one day the instructor said his insurance would not cover me and then refunded my money. I have a handicape... I lost my left leg above the knee 50 years ago. I was hit by a car while crossing the street.
I conntacted another MSF class and the instructor said because I could not use the rear brake to stop and put my left foot down at the stop.... he would not let me take the class.
In fairness to the MSF program there is a Harley Dealer in Alexandria, Louisiana that probably would have taken me.
I took a class from 'Top Gun' on a honda 750 shadow. I dropped it twice both trying to start off in slow ride and go directly into a left turn. Good people. They taught me some basic moves like starting, stopping, slow ride, swerving, and hard braking, and probably some other things. Two things the instructor taught me I think had alot of value are 1) the instructor intentionally locked the front tire in a hard braking stop ...then released then braked again. a good lesson
2) on another hard braking stop locked the rear wheel and even caused the bike to slightly swerve. The back wheel moving from under the bike in a hard brake can/does happen but the rear wheel will trail the bikes straight direction.
At no time was I instructed or tried to lock either wheel in the hard braking stops I did from a speed of 20 mph. The lesson taught was even though a bike can fall from either wheel locking up ... a bike is still stable in a straight hard brake. The R1200R has abs linked brakes and yes in a turn these brakes will lock up and a fall will follow. And recently I had to slam on my brakes ... the bike just stopped. An interesting experience.
Counter Steering was taught in the first MSF one day class and the 'Top Gun' class. However the idea that counter steering was used in the middle of a turn is something I missed.
GOOD NEWS -- I know counter steering is used in the middle of a turn. Moving from point a to point b I make several small adjustments to keep control and stay on the road.
I'm 57 and have about 700 miles on my bike and 39 years driving a car. Maybe I should change my handle from redwing to ramblin' bob???
I really enjoy riding my bike.
