I recently bought an Iron 883 and have found (after 150 mile day yesterday) that I would like the ability to stretch out a bit on longer rides. I do not want forward controls, as I like the mid-mounts for most of the riding I do, but would love the option to stretch out on the highway.
All I have been able to find, is either forward controls, or highway pegs that mount to an engine guard (not putting an engine guard on my Iron).
Can anyone help? Do they not make a set of highway pegs that would mount where the forward controls would go?
I think you posted this in another forum? It's a little late but I have highway pegs on my nightster not mounted to an engine guard. So you can get them. Although, I don't use them. It feels awkward compared to the middle ones.
I looked at the pics of your bike, and that is the same thing I just bought for highway pegs. I got then off e-bay used for $50, as I am taking them in to get powder coated, can't be having any chrome on the Iron.
I am surprised to hear you do not use them. Do they not help you stretch out a bit?
They do in some way, but I haven't gone very far. When I use them they feel sort of awkward like I said. My main issue is my seat is horribly uncomfortable after about 50 miles. So I end up stopping before I get the chance to use them.
Plus I do alot of town and short country road driving and not alot of pure highway/interstate. I think mids are just easier to function with in these cases.
I agree as far as the mids go, for most riding, which is why I do not really want forward controls. I just want the option and I definitely do some highway riding.
That is a sweet bike you have, I was looking at one of those also.
Yeah I really like the look of the Iron/Nightster. The iron's paint job is really nice, really wish I coulda got that look on the nightster. I was originally looking at an iron but my dad told me to stay away from 883's, due to the resale.
What kind of pipes are those? Very nice bike btw. Whereabouts are you from?
The pipes are Vance&Hines shortshots. I got the pipes, stage 1 Screamin Eagle AC and a remap from the dealer for $900. I think you can get the pipes off E-bay for around $350. They sound awesome!
I heard the same about the 883, but I am keeping it, hopefully will be my son's first bike, then I will be ready for a touring type bike.
Preferred. I asked if it would effect the way the bike ran, he said it would run lean and the plugs would burn white. I figured it was best to get it done. I think it was like $120 at the dealer.
My wife's family lives in PA, I think the town is Cassville, somewhere near Altoona, I think.
