Jevco Motorcycle Insurance Review

Jevco is based out of Montreal Quebec but is sold throughout Canada via brokers. This has been my experience with them so far.

I bought a policy from Cedar Square Ins. in Medicine Hat, Ab. in April for my brand new 2009 Johnny Pag Spyder 300 which I picked up on April 7/09. The Ins. was reasonably priced @ $365 yr. for full coverage.

On May 23/09 I was involved in a hit and run with a Deluxe Central Cab who cut in front of me and forced me to put the bike down & jump or hit the cab. The cab then proceeded to take off at a high rate of speed. The police attended and witnesses told the same story about the cab. Now this should have been a cut and dry case for the Ins. but nooo....

It is now Aug.6/09 and I still have not received a check from Jevco for the damages. Phone calls to there 1-800 number are a joke, twice for giggles I put the phone on speaker and waited on hold for 60+ minutes while I watched TV and no one ever took the call. I have also left phone messages "3" with them but no one ever calls back. I called the broker "Cedar Square" who sold me the policy and they attempted contacting Jevco about the claim and got the run around themselves! It has been 75 days since the hit & run and no $$$$$ ! Not wanting to waste our short riding season I started to repair the bike right away. Now I sit with over $3000 on a credit card for the repairs which is now collecting 18% interest because of Jevco!

I will post this message in as many forums as I can to warn riders to stay away from Jevco Insurance. I also took it one step further and registered the domain name www.jevcosucks.ca and will upload as much information about Jevco as possible. I will also put up a blog on the site so others that have had issues with them can post their view of Jevco Insurance.

Post here: GTA Motorcycles Insurance Forum. They have a couple brokers on board that ride bikes, and at least one of them is a Jevco broker. This area of the forum is great for those who ride in Ontario because it is so specific to our insurance. No matter, there have been a few Jevco threads that you might want to read.

My dealings with Jevco have been unhappy, but not as bad as yours. I'd not recommend them to anyone, but apparently many people have had good experiences. When no one else will insure new riders, they will.

You need to contact the Alberta Insurance ombudsman ASAP and get your case started. There may be a maximum amount of time after your incident. Insurance companies can "pee" you off right good, so chin up, file your paperwork, and get your money back.

Fixing your bike before finishing with insurance is not a good thing, and may bite you in the butt. Be patient. I hope you took photos, because if they need an assessment on your bike you might be SOL.

An insurance company that gladly takes your money and screws you when you try to collect? I'm totally shocked. This is the game they play and they are the best at it no question. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Stay on these guys, they will break eventually.

79 days later and I receive payment! At 75 days I sent in a complaint to the Alberta Insurance Council and got a call from a couple days later. I spoke with them for a couple minutes and they said they would call Jevco and inquire about the claim. The very next morning I got a call from Jevco saying the check was being airmailed for the very next morning to me. Although I am very happy I received my funds it is so sad that I had to make a complaint to get it. If anyone has issues with your insurance do not hesitate to contact your Provincial Insurance Regulators.

It's good to hear you finally got resolution.

Here in BC we have an alernative to ICBC for comprehensive and collision. Beacon or Megson...

Beacon was very good. I had to pay my deductible, but I got it reimbursed quickly, because the other person was at fault.
The slowest part of the whole process was waiting for the bike shop to get my bike fixed.
