One of my favorite trips across country was in my ol 3000gt, for all the same reasons you just listed. Minus the drink, that car didn't have cupholders.
I'm old enough to have owned many cages that never came with cupholders.... a jug of iced tea is still a workable option.

I love jumping into the cage and heading out for a few thousand miles. Very therapeutic for me...... just a different therapy than riding (which is also very good for my mental health)

I'm a bike guy through and through but this makes me want to reconsider:

Overall, I still prefer the bike to a car even on a straight road. It feels a little wasteful to square off a perfectly good Michelin tire punchin a straight line to Saskatchewan, but the temperature changes and being submerged in all around me still beat the satellite stereo and air conditioning any day.

If someone wants to lend me a GT for a few hours I could change my mind..... 8)

Just to put opinion in... No cars!

I was in to cars for years. Then work consumed me with commutes and crap and pretty much killed my interest in cars.

Not so with the two wheeled variety, at least not yet.

Indifferent. Cars are appliances, something I have to own, like a refrigerator. At least the kind of cars I can afford......

Cars do have their advantages.

I just walked in from taking a very nice neighbor Lady for a spin in the Vette with the top down. She enjoyed it and there is no way in hell she would ever get on the back of a bike, so without that craptacular hunk of plastic, I would have to eat my ice cream cone alone tonight..... even a junky GM has it's uses.

I don't really care much about cars either. They're just A-to-B machines. You can tell from the cars I've owned; a Toyota Corolla, a Honda Civic, a Vauxhall Astra - pretty much the most appliance-like cars available.

PS, and even if I've got a coupla Beemers, I don't find any of the current BMW cars interesting either. Well, maybe the M3, but it's also overpriced, IMHO.

I like cars about the same way I like bikes. I like the way some of them look, but I can't rattle out numbers or statistics for either.
