Gone for a month. 2 bikes. 1 battery tender.

What do I do? I was thinking of attaching the tender to the bike with the bigger battery, and just disconnecting the battery from the other bike (no drain from the clock, etc.). Is there a smarter way to go about this?

I personally would just disconect both batteries and leave it at that, never had an issue. I've actually forgot to disconect the battery one winter... it started right up come march.

Is it really that big a deal for a month. I usually ride during the winter. Last winter was cold so I didn't ride very often...I'm sure I went at least a month without hooking up a battery tender or even disconnecting the battery and it was fine the next time I started her up.

My guess is that it would depend on the condition of the battery to start with.

I wouldn't worry about it bud, Manila isn't cold enough to discharge a battery in a month.

Good point. I should just relax about it.

This belongs to another thread altogether, but I wouldn't have worried at all if the bikes were Japanese.

Nah Beemers are good bikes as well. Besides they all use AGM batteries, no worries man.
