New Honda?

I think it is. I'm thinking bland isn't such a bad thing, actually. Predictable handling, a throttle that doesn't want to kill you and people don't want to steal it.

I find that a lot of the bikes in Europe and Canada appeal to me. I like the "cross-over" type of bikes, I plan on picking up a used Versys as my next ride, and I like the looks of this one, comfortable upright seating, a reasonable amount of power to work on the interstates, and room to carry some things. I guess I am either boring or living in the wrong country. Honda isn't the only manufacturer guilty of this, since Kawasaki didn't release the Versys here until others found the same appeal and complained until they brought it here.

While I applaud Honda USA giving us more choices, I'm not sure what all the buzz is about the NT700V. Lightweight sport tourer? Not really... compare some shaft horsepower and dry weight specs:

• NT700V: 68 hp, 520 lbs
  Trophy 1200: 108 hp, 518 lbs
  R1200RT: 110 hp, 504 lbs

Now check out a real lightweight sport tourer, the F800ST: 85 horsepower and 412 lbs dry.

With a power/weight ratio like that, is it any surprise legions of smarta$$es have renamed the NT700V the 'Dullsville' ??

Whoah, I never really paid attention to the specs. How can the NT700 be heavier than a freakin' BMW R1200RT? Is its fairing made of lead or something?

Yeah, I was thinking my post was a little one-sided. I've gone after HD for similar issues.

The fact of the matter is that there are so many car choices that relatively speaking - it seems so few bike choices. I think a lot of bikers like being original as well - so having more models would be better, but it might drive per bike manufacturing costs up - and end prices up as well.

So, I shouldn't be unfair to HD or Honda. It seems like an industry in the USA problem.

HD, I think offers more models here than overseas - except for that little stunt with the XR1200 - which turned out to be a delay and not a not released in the USA thing.

Being original is one of the concerns, yes, but there are also lots of different kinds of motorcyclists who either have different needs or enjoy different kinds of riding, and don't want to be limited to just two categories; cruisers or sportbikes.

Just one example, middleweight and open-weight standards are some of the most versatile bikes around, but for some reason there just aren't that many choices in the US in those categories.

The same way a ST1300 can be a "sport tourer" and weigh 719 lbs dry. 719 lbs?? What kind of a "sport"-anything weighs 719 lbs??
