so close, idle, throttle trouble

Because according to the EPA you should never have to change that to make a vehicle run correctly.
Ignore the manual on this one and change it. We've had to do it merely because of altitude up here at 7900 feet with everything else bone stock.

So I did it, 2.5 turns out on each. I also checked the fuel level with the tubing like the manual says, and it seems fine. Do I need to balance the carbs again now? It still revs high, do I need to turn the mixture screws a bit more? I don't think the idle is too high because it seems to want to die if I don't give it a little gas. When I do, It starts to rev high and come back down really slowly. Am I even close?

Yep turn your idle up a little bit. Then turn your fuel screws so that you get a little more fuel and less air. If they're on the engine side of the carb turn them out, if they're on the airbox side of the carb then turn them back in. Go a quarter turn at a time, revving up and seeing how it reacts.
