I might be done riding

#1 Unread post by ofblong »

For a couple of years. Apparently the insurance company is saying my bike is really close to being totaled. BBV of the bike is only $2265. If they end up totaling it I might try to get it back at a reduced price and just replace the rear tire (only thing wrong with it mechanicaly all the issues are cosmetic). But if I cant buy it back it will be a couple of years till I can buy a new motorcycle. I can only hope I dont lose too much of what I have learned while riding the past 3 years.

No worries, if all that needs replacing is the rear tire. Ensure that the frame is not bent, as well as shocks. The earlier (before '97) VLXs had dual carbs and are pretty nice. Get a new rear tire from eBay and you're in business.

Heck, $2200 buys a nice NH750. My insurance, liability only, is 81 dollars a year.

You can ride with a $2200 payout.

Yup, plenty of good mid sized bikes for that price. Pick up GS500 or Ninja 500. Or a Seca II would be nice if you can find one. Probably a few mid sized cruisers around that price too.

Yeah my next bike is gonna be what I want not a used bike. So if I cant buy it back at a decent price then it will be a couple of years before I ride again. Although the prospects of a 750 or a gs500 does sound doable.

You should really be able to buy it off the insurance for almost nothing. Just make sure you talk to them and start the wheels rolling on it.

It will have a salvage title, and you'll have to make it mechanically safe - and need a special inspection to change the title to a regular title.

I had a friend ( a few years ago ) total a car and buy it back for $25. Got the total payout and fixed the car and didn't have any problems.

Also, more recently, I have a co-worker that has a Ducati - he totaled it, bought it back and it is his long-term work bike (but he's got another bike to ride).

Lots of used bikes in great condition going for cheap... well in my area that is. If the damage isn't all that bad just tell them to not fix some things like the cosmetics.

There's an abandoned Triumph Speed Triple here and no one's come claim it in weeks.

Geezuz christ

ya dont see that sorta thing down here, only time you see pictures like that are the ones they (the media) dig up on serial killers, murders and those who torture domestic pets, these types of people always have pics of themselves with weapons and stuff hanging and draped all over them

Its a very confronting picture I must say, but then I come from a culture of beach dwelling, beer drinking and we love everyone attitudes ...so there for we have no need for guns.

Its a terrible shame that you lot must live your one and only life in constant fear of your next door neighbor, or the people down the street or the unknown guys around the corner etc etc etc

Love

me
