#1 Unread post by street is good »

well, i am 5'11" and weigh 170lbs. what bike should i get? i want power but i dont want to have so much i cant controll it. i was thinking about the suzuki 1299cc bike. here it is. http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/GS ... fault.aspx
i was also thinking about the honda 998cc. here is the link. http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycle ... =RVT1000R5
or the yamaha 998cc. here it is. http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/products/pro ... contentTop

do these bikes have too much power for someone my size? i just need a good bike that has decent power and is resonable for the cost.

thanks everyone!!!

By looking at the bikes you initially were looking at, its obvious you want a snazzy looking sport bike. Im there with ya.

The bikes you were looking at the first time can hurt you bad if you make a mistake, much less forgiving than the bikes in the above qouted threads.

Having recently done this I will simplify it a little for ya. You have two routes to take, new or used. If you have 2-3k saved up, just plunk your money down on a used ninja 500 and learn to ride on it. You can sell it 6 months later just a little less than you bought it for.

If you were like me and didnt have any saved and are impatient, then you have to finance at a dealer. If you go to a dealer I would steer you towards a ninja 500($4800), gs500f($4800), or an SV650S($6400). I got an SV650S, and I think its fine for a beginner with some common sense.

Also, plan on buying at least $500 in gear right when you get the bike. Things like a DOT or Snell helmet, a leather jacket, reinforced boots, riding gloves, and maybe some leather pants. You can easily spend more than 500, very easily.

Good luck

Yeah, in my opinion he should buy a moped and only after ten years of consistent safe riding should he consider maybe moving up to a Kawasaki Eliminator (125cc) if he promises to do all his chores, wear a bullet-proof vest, eat all his vegetables, and stay in first gear for the first year because, after all, everyone knows that crotch rocket throttles have only two positions...OFF and WIDE OPEN and the clutches are either fully engaged or fully disengaged (no modulating those bad boys!) so unless he's up for a race (i.e. instant death by mailbox) he should stick to SUV's or, better yet, stay indoors at all costs while wearing a life jacket (never know when there might be another great flood!).
