Big fat hogs with belching pipes

NYC is full of them but the tuner group have loud car exhausts and many times much more offensive than the loud motorcycle. Plus the taxis or idiot drivers around here keep their distance from a loud bike while they tailgate or change lanes into quieter bikes.

in all seriousness though, the only bikes ive ever heard that i would consider to be outrageously loud were on the highway when they pass me at the speed of light. One guy scared the crap outa me so much so that I almost jumped off my bike while riding to canmore when some hells-angel looking fella blew by me in the other lane. Sport bikes can be stupid loud too though, ever heard a zx-10 running at 13k rpm in the lane next to you? not easy on the ears... However i wouldn't consider loud motorcycles to be a huge issue in Calgary and i don't think we really will ever have a huge problem with it.... too many rig pigs driving jacked up F-450's to worry about.

Just one guy's opinion though.

Heard from a friend that the cops were set up near Port Dover a few weeks ago reading the DB levels off bikes they were pulling over at random so; the issue is starting to get some attention.

Well in a world full of Billions of people, millions of different points of view, Some say pOtatoe some say pAtatoe. Yada yada. Until you have ridden a motorcycle and get cut off over and over again, the louder the pipe, the safer you are.

I dunno. Even on my bike, I usually don't hear the loud pipes until AFTER they are past me. Doppler effect & all I guess.

But I do have a stiebel air horn. I've seen it work numerous times. Only once so far has it failed. And decent riding tactics worked there.

My opinion is that loud pipes do more overall damage to the image of riders than they do individual good. But it's an opinion, feel free to ignore it.

Wouldn't mind seeing a study done tho.

One can usually tell a riders maturity level by the pipes on their bike.

Here's what noise related items I'd do away with before loud pipes on bikes - barking dogs and their idiot owners, loud music and thumping and their self-centered idiot owners, crying babies in restaurants and their inconsiderate idiot parents, loud profane people in public - actually, loud bikes and boats I'm okay with. Also, with all the gang-related shooting going on of late I think it should be mandatory that gang-bangers have to have silencers on their guns. dayll
