I listen to KFI Los Angeles nearly every morning and it rattles me that almost without exception their traffic people report at least one motorcycle DOWN EVERY morning! I was a go fast traffic splitter many moons ago and was lucky to have survived; these days I'm quite content to sit between cars or just split traffic at idle speed. When I was young I was fearless on a M/C and I remember and understand but check yourselves just a bit guys and gals - don't end up on the KFI traffic report some morning. -dayll

There are old bikers and there are bold bikers... but there are no old, bold bikers.

still recovering - back to crutches, then walking with a stick, then running - then hopefully riding again!

I get the feeling this phenomenon might calm down if lane splitting wasn't legal in CA?

Dayll, what do you ride?

Well I'm of two minds about lane splitting.

They have some very good statistics that there are lower rear-end fatalities in California where lane splitting is legal. They avoid the accordion traffic.

But they don't record the number of fatalities caused and that happen during lane splitting, so it is unknown if lane splitting is safer or not.

I don't do it, but it is illegal here. - err well I did do it once, but it exceeded my comfort level.

NYG guy - lucky you, I'm originally from Buffalo so I'm a long-suffering Bills fan. I ride a '82 Honda 900C; I've owned twenty-some bikes over the years including two years back in my college days when I only had a motorcycle and no car (a 69 BSA Lightning) and had to ride rain or shine. I just get nervous for these young guys that go shooting up between lanes with a fist full of throttle. The cagers have no idea he's coming through. It's trusting a lot to luck. I did and I'm still here so. . . There's two things you gotta believe if you live in or are from Buffalo 1) The Bills WILL win a super Bowl one day. 2) O.J. is innocent! (lol on #2)

I feel like a lot of the time when I'm on the road, I'm taking all the luck I can get, and that's ATGATT, generally staying within reasonable [personal] speed limits and being very vigilant of who I'm sharing the road with...to lane split is just inviting another plethora of potential disasters upon you. Even though it's explicitly illegal, I think riding a shoulder is safer (I don't do this, FTR).

Anyway, without some decent stats I guess it's anybody's best hypothesis.

Buffalo...what a long strange trip indeed. Thoughts on T.O.?

Re: The Bills - I'm confused why he is being left out of the game plan. Is Jaron trying to establish who's boss with him maybe? I think the jury is still out on Edwards; I wonder what his personal opinion of TO is? Seems to me were I a young Q-back I would take great pains to try and get the ball to TO every freakin' chance I had. But what do I know-I voted for Bush - and then for Obama! Somebody stop me! Anyways - had a great ride today, even with the Santa Anas blowing. Old Honda's running good for now at least. Go Giants! (and Bills. I hate the Jets!) -dayll

Damn dayll, we got a lot in common...been out to Santa Clarita a few times and ridden up around Palmdale with my uncle and cousin.

Last off-topic remark, I swear: personally I like Edwards, that 5-0 start a few years back had me impressed and I think it was a glimpse of more good things to come, but in reference to Jauron, I think your theory is probably correct...when a media menace like T.O. comes into a town (especially a smaller market where the team carries more civic pride along with it), there probably is a deliberate move to calm him down, establish some authority and integrate him into the gameplan. Seems steps one and two should have happened by now, so hopefully, T.O. will be getting more passes soon enough.
