I grew up in the country where we had a hole in the screen door to put the rifle through to get the coyotes.

I also learned how to load bullets from my grandpa. Learned how to shoot a rifle when I was 8 and was taught proper safety from the beginning.

Guns have their purpose. As long as they are used responsibly, there shouldn't be a problem.

What I don't understand about the Canadian gun legislation, is why they charge law abiding citizens a tax on their guns, when in most cases of violence with the a gun, that one wasn't registered.

The main perk of being in an armed society like the US is you have the option to take your personal security into your own hands rather than relying on the police (who may not be around when you need them).

You can leagally buy most guns in the US with nothing more than a criminal background check so many law abiding citizens own guns, yet just like in disarmed societies the vast majority of guns used by criminals in the US are purchased on the black market.

Living in a disarmed society isn't safer (as high crime rates in many parts of europe demonstrate), you just dont have the option to defend yourself. Criminals in disarmed societies are still able to get weapons via illegal means.

The US must be doing something right, we have had an armed capitalist society for 223 years and have managed to not kill each other off and become one of the most successful nations in history.

In terms of national success, 223 years is like a weekend.
Most successful in history is seriously debatable...and the debate starts with definition of success.
But our system does seem to be working pretty well.

Yes but our mayor wants to ban all guns, even though he says illegal guns he doesn't want anyone but law enforcement to have them. He's successful in getting other mayors and governors in different states to go along with it.

Meanwhile stupid crazy people are slicing others with "ninja" swords (thanks Fox for being so stupid) which is now putting a strain on people who train in the arts and buy training equipment for their schools. Bloomberg can GTFO so can the rival Thompson. Martial weapons training is more than for just traditional weapons, we can make improvised weapons if need be and know how to do damage with them.

After a teenage boy was shot and killed by another teenage boy holding an illegal gun there's the obvious outrage in NYC. Problem is that now some citizens want the police to be more aggressive with their stop and frisk throwing civil liberties out the door. Also more restrictions on guns and the idea of banning the sale of such are in mind with the mayor and many citizens here.

I notice that it's the lower class neighborhoods who don't want to do anything themselves, like proper parenting, who are always doing the complaining about wanting more police and complain more when said police are doing what they were told to do and that is frisk. Uhh, hello you live in an area predominantly black so it's not racism.
