Can you see it now?

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department.

throwing in the cell phone bit makes it sound like it was the drivers fault. i saw these pictures in this article and it said the rider was going 155 mph. that seems a little more plausible to send the bike into the car like that. it also seems to me that it's the riders fault that three people died that day and not the drivers fault.

great post and pictures through. many people don't realize how quickly a situation can change for the worse.

Yeah, that does sound a little more plausable. I just received the pics and info in an email from my Mom (she doesn't like me riding). Either way...msg is, slow down...and get off the damn phone!

Speaking of phones...I saw a guy riding the other day and at a stop, he pulls out his cell phone and start talking on it, even as he was taking off. Kinda wanted to smack him.

At lights I KNOW are long, I'll pull my phone out to see if I missed a call or msg. But then I put it back, WITHOUT answering. I"ll pull over if I need to call or text back.

I want to get a tank bag with a cell pocket on top so I can see when I miss calls. Don't want to answer them, just want to know what I missed.

Thanks for the post... Canned Heat ... remember those guys .. they say speed kills. Terrible accident.

Yeah definitely making the rounds again. Regarding speed though, it's amazing how deceptive it is. When you are travelling 80mph, 90mph or even 100mph you don't really get the perspective and true implication of that speed.

When I think that in baseball only elite athletes can hit a fastball travelling 90mph, yet we expect someone in a car to get out of the way or "see" a motorcycle from what essentially would be the mound? Strange isn't it?

It is the driver's fault. Talking on the cell phone, not looking before pulling out and failure to yield right of way.

Too many idiots BSing on the phone and not paying attention to their driving these days. The other day I pulled into a parking lot and was looking for a space when this guy just backs out on me. I hit the breaks and watched as he has his cell plastered to his ear and was looking to his left. He never once looked to his right which is where I was. I pulled up close to him and when he finally turned his head I was sitting there. I thought he was going to have a heart attack when he saw me that close. I just shook my head in disgust and pulled around him.

yep. it clearly is. being that you were there. know the intersection. saw the reaction time. and the guy on the bike was only going a measly 155 mph. so easy to see. not only easy to see, but being that so many people ride at 155 mph all drivers know how quickly they will reach them. the driver of the car had all day to see him and figure out what to do. what was i thinking?!?!?! those in the car deserved to die because of that nasty, dirty, straight from the devil, evil cell phone. silly me.
