Hi Folks.

Well...... 13 bikers died this year alone in the Greater Vancouver regional district. The seasoned started with 3 deaths in April to May and ended with 4 deaths for the months of last 2 weeks of September and the first 2 weeks of October. I have been to 7 funerals this year. Not close friends but close enough that I can't call them and say hey lets go for a ride, Merry Christmas or let’s go for a drink.

So my question for you as a Rider/Passenger is... What are you going to do different next year?

I dont know all the factors surrounding these motorcycle deaths. But the thing I will do differently is slow down a bit. I had a nice run in a while back with da "Police". Needless to say, he about impounded the bike, but because I was being cooperative, he lessened my fines, and I got to keep my bike. Though I do enjoy the speed, I still need to be careful.

1. Moto lights on my V-strom. Our Trophy has them, they really seem to make a difference.
2. Obnoxiously bright yellow-green jacket like my wife has.

Most motorcycle deaths have some drug/alcohol involvement and are not wearing a helmet. I don’t drink or do drugs and I wear a helmet. I try to take my time and enjoy the ride but it is the other drivers we on motorcycles typically have to worry about. Other than be even more vigilant I don’t know what else I can do.

I have to say I love the speed on my motorcycle. It is SO exhilarating that I almost always end up doing 100mph for a few seconds just for the thrill. Next year....I am not going to do that anymore. That's my New Years resolution.

People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Or at least long enough that my dad doesn't have to hear a million 'I told you so's from my mom.

Those jackets do seem to have at least some effect. Now, if only I could get my big-assed bike to be all glowy yellow-green like that.
