new pipes, hypercharger and... whining sound

#1 Unread post by le_r0umain »

Hi all,

VStar 1100 Custom. I've just got my new PCS Monster pipes and the hypercharger on (rejetting and all @ the dealer).
But now I hear a whine at idle (in spite of the louder pipes). That whine closely follows the engine rpm. It also looks like the idle rpm is a little lower.

here's a sound clip http://members.shaw.ca/le_r0umain/whining_noise.wav

What could be the source of the whine ?

My bike whines like that pretty much all the time. If all you did was add a hypercharger and pipes I'd assume the change in intake flow caused the whine. I attribute mine to the stator.

I suspect a decrease in the idle RPM for the "sound".
By stator, do you mean alternator ?

Went to the dealer and the mech said it's normal gearbox whining.
I wonder how come I did not hear it when the pipes were quieter ?!

You opened things up a bit ... more sound transfer here and there ... It happens!
