YES I agree, this is my preferred way to go as well. The younger the better, within reason of course.

So much can be learned OFF road which can transfer beautifully ON Road.

Starting in the dirt is a great way to Hone reflexes & develop & nurture that sixth since that experienced riders now have.

It's also good to have a few minor (muddy/slow speed) falls in the dirt to appreciate that faster speeds & crashing can hurt big time!

Just an update here....

It's been awhile and she's still riding. In fact she's got several hundred miles so far this summer and I turn her loose regularly. She doesn't like to drive the car, but I make he drive it once in awhile anyhow.

She's still on the scooter and wanting to know when we are going find something bigger/faster.

Next spring child, next spring.

We took a 50 mile ride todayto get ice cream.
She's done some 50-60 mile days by herself.
She even puts gas in it once in awhile.....

She'll be fine, relax and good luck! My parents never wanted me to get a bike... no one did... I'm glad I didn't listen. Now that I bought one my dad wants to buy another one (he hasn't had a bike in about 10 years) so he can ride with my brother and I.

Pyropig sounds like my daughter, she has all the right arguments and is clearly more mature than me. My daughter rode all of mine and her brothers trials bikes in the dirt and picked up her riding skills that way, from the age of about seven. She now has a scooter but is nagging me to death for A CBR 125. While she is still young I prefer her on the scooter as it has more bulk and lights all over the place. She is also very mature in the way she rides and takes immense pleasure in leaving the cages behind at the robots and stop streets.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R
