So I may have an opportunity to buy an 89 Sportster 1200. Pics look clean. And I like the Sportster. Any thoughts?
Jesus died for you. Will you accept that?

I here Sportsters are a little top heavy; but every bike seems to have it's own personality. If you are happy with the bike ... given you are in Hawaii .... get it. Also there is a Harley Forum on Total Motorcycle and several other forums on Harley Bikes at other web sights. Do you think the bike is mechanically sound??

I have an 09 nightster, I don't find it top heavy so much that you wouldn't be able to handle it especially with previous experience. I learned on the one I bought.

Keep in mind the following, HD didn't rubber mount the engines on the sportster until the middle 2000s (not sure what year exactly). So the vibrations on a sportster from what I hear are a lot worse than other bikes.

Sporty was rubber mounted starting 2004. The vibrations on rubber mount sporties is more than average. That 89 will have more. If you can deal with that go for it.
