collector plates

Have just gotten a 1977 gl1000(goldwing) and am interested in getting collector plates for it if I can. Anyone on here from BC have collector plates. Would like to know if the bike has to have original paint scheme, or if a new paint color is okay. Also want to know if the original tank and side panels need to have the original decals iding the bike as a goldwing need to still be there. Thanks in advance for any answers to these and any other ?'s.

Not sure about BC, but in Colorado collectors plates can be bought for any car, truck or bike of at least 25 years (NM uses 35 years, SD uses 30) If it is the same as here the only thing taht needs to be factory is the VIN number (and that is only inspected if bike is from out of state, just think about the Hot Rods with Chevy motors) located on newer bikes on the frame neck or cradle, on older bikes it was the engine number. Here the Classic tags are good for 5 years (NM and SD as long as you own) but cost 5 times as much, so price works out to be the same.

In the US, I'm pretty sure that any vehicle over 25 years old can get "historic" tags. That means you pay less to register it, and don't have to meet the latest environmental standards.

Your best bet for an answer is to contact whatever department is responsible for providing license plates/registrations where you live.

Seems strange that the tag name can be different from one State to anotheras well as minium age.
Really varies by State. In Colorado is 25 years or older but costs the same per year Vintage (Horseless Carriage for cars) is 50 or older and costs $12.67 for 5 years. Both are exempt from emissions, if you are in Denver or Springs area, but so are all motorcycles regardless of age.
