06 Suzuki M50 with 38k miles: good deal or terrible deal?

#1 Unread post by Sareph »

Hey guys, I've been looking around lately for a good deal on a cruiser and I think I may have found one. It's an 06 Suzuki M50. My only concern is that it has 38k miles on it. I spoke to the seller and he said its mileage is so high because he used it as his main form of transportation for the first couple of years he had it. He did buy it new. He said he has kept it in good condition, had it maintained. He's asking $3500. I'm really excited about this but just wanted to check with some who are likely more experienced.

Here's the listing on Craigslist for more info and some pics: http://abilene.craigslist.org/mcy/1627813877.htm

Well 38k isn't bad on those bikes if he really has maintained it. Check for service records. But honestly the price is a little high, I'd say it's closer to the 3K mark unless you're buying it from a dealer who's gone and overhauled it.

That is a pretty good price. I would strongly recommend hooking up with a trusted mechanic, paying him an hour's worth of labor (maybe in beer) and taking to the owner's place and have him give it at. That is A LOT of miles and you want to be careful.

Good Luck

Blue book on that is $4325 so $3500 doesn't sound bad. And the mileage doesn't strike me as unreasonable. Heck I've got 28K on a 2008 that is less than two years old.

Sounds like a reasonable price. Offer him a few hundred under and see what happens. I've got 72k miles on a 2006 V-strom that I bought in 07. No issues. I also own the older version of that bike 2005 Suzuki Maurader 800 with 28,000 miles with no issues... other than needing a new throttle cable which I'm installing this weekend.

I have an '06 C50 with 20K miles. These bikes are made to ride and I don't think the miles are an issue. I agree with woooopa that it woud be a good idea to have it checked out by a good mechanic. The price seems good. Did he say why he is selling? If he is in financial struggle, he may just be selling for some fast cash and that would be good for you.

$4325 is the KBB retail value, a private party sale should be about halfway between Retail and Trade-In, assuming good condition and normal mileage. Trade-In value on that bike should be $2970. So $3500 is a little below the half way point. Any chance you get the bike checked by a mechanic to make sure it's in good condition?
