Two years ago GF's sport bike picked up a a nail in the tread (Metzler, but don''t remember which model). Due to financial status we elected to plug. String type with cement. Worked for 1000 miles. I just treated it like a car tire. Rough up the hole and insert wet string. As I recall, she went beyond wear bars before replacing it.

Just my luck, I got another puncture on my rear Metz Z6 last Sunday. Used Slime again, and it held this time, and has held for a few days (hasn't even lost 1 psi of pressure). I've only been using the bike for quick errands though, nowhere near high speed or sporty riding. Will bring it to the shop on Saturday for a more permanent fix or tire replacement.

I plugged my rear Metz ME880 tire last year and I'm still riding on it. Actually, I didn't plug it, I patched it from the inside since the nail which penetrated it went on an angle and was not proper for a plug. Most holes need to be fairly straight in order for a plug to be used and hold efficiently. Otherwise, a patch is needed and in many cases, a plug patch is best. Regardless, my patch is still holding after roughly 7,000 miles. BTW, it was a simple tire patch kit from the auto parts store.
