dean owens wrote:but how do you define heavy metal? every time a new type came out we had to figure out if it was metal or not. it was until a few years ago that i heard people refer to led zeppelin and black sabbath as heavy metal. to me they were classic rock.
Zeppelin in the quintessential example of heavy metal. They pretty much invented that genre. Heavy metal is Rhythm and Blues rock n rolled to death; which pretty much describes what Zeppelin is.

Sabbath would most definitely be Heavy Metal. They started as a hard rocking Blues Rock band and along with other bands like Zeppelin, & pioneered the advent of Heavy Metal.

True definition of Heavy Metal is a hard rock n roll based on R & B. Or as someone coined it back then, "Rhythm & Blues rock n rolled to death".

Blue Cheer
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.
