oh the slow motion horror...

as i was standing outside physical therapy texting and looked up to see some ahole backing OVER MY 600 lb baby - watching it go over in slow motion - as if it were a movie....

it actually took me a minute until he started to pull away that i ran, slammed my hands on his hood and started yelling...

he got out and said, "gee, i didn't do it on PURPOSE - this is a rental - i usually drive a truck" THANK GOD he had a rental, the truck might have totaled the bike!

good news is fourfold:
1) BEST 400 bucks ever spent = crash/engine guards.
2) it wasn't that hard to pick up (finally got to try out the video technique - barely needed it)
3) looks like the only damage is a bent passenger foot peg.
4) no one got hurt (though the cager almost did - i'm thinking elbow armor isn't ONLY defensive)

taking it to the shop tomorrow for a full evaluation - i do NOT know enough to evaluate its road-worthiness (although it rode home fine - albeit VERY slowly)

Sorry to hear that man. Amazing how some people think "The owner's not around, let's keep going!" The bike shop will likely find a few more scratched parts, but glad it's still able to be ridden...

Happened to one of my courier bikes once, watched it get backed into by a delivery van and dragged underneath. Unfortunately I watched it happen from the third floor window of an office I was making a delivery to, and then saw them get out of of the van, look at the bike, get back in the van and drive off leaving it laying there bleeding out its fluids. Did however get the company name that owned the van and its fleet number. Bike was badly banged up when I got to it, bars bend, pegs bent, tank dented (even more then usual) and clutch and brake levers snapped off. Called the company that owned the van and got a nice under the table deal from them instead of going thru ICBC. Paid for my short lived CB650 courier bike and put a few pennies in my pocket. But at the time I was livid and could of killed....which I think got transmitted to the drivers boss when I called.

Usually drives a truck? Great --something bigger, heavier, and with less driver visibility. The other frustration to me is the "Gee, I didn't do it on purpose." Well, goody. If that had been a toddler, would he/she be so blase? It should worry the pants off him that he missed something so obvious in a parking lot.

The insurance will pay for the estimate. Ask for them to include anything that could be replaced. Then order it and do the work yourself. Extra money for you for your heartache.
