Just bought a 2004 Suzuki Gixxer 1000. for a little over a week.

First problem experienced with the new bee is that the speedometer and odometer aint work. No matter how fast I ride, the digit remains at "0 MPH" and "32450" the #s just wouldnt add up.

3 days ago, when turned the key to "ON" the whole instrument panel went dead (except for the green N lite). Head light also went dead (it worked 3 days ago!!!!), Tacho aint move, all #s on the digital gaugae aint work. no temperature reading, nothing at all! but still able to start the bike and noticed that rear light and rear signal light worked (except for Emergency flashes, only right rear side works)

its really weird, any electrician out there or any one that knows of such an issue, please provide some advices I hope that the damage is not that great

As things became more weird was that when started the bike and turn key to "OFF" position, the Tacho raced from 0- Red zone" as if it were in the beginning phase of starting the bike except that the key is at "OFF" and it only lasted no more than 1 second, other lights and signals on the instrument panel remained dead.
But turn the key to "ON" again, nothing happened, yet still able to start the bike.

First thing I would do is check the wiring harness from the instrument cluster (Suzuki calls this the 'combination meter') where it plugs into the system, I think there are 3 connections leading down into the main harness (but I'm not sure of the # of connections exactly). Check all the harness connectorsdown to the computer under the seat. You will probably have to remove the leftside lower fairing to get at some of these.

Make sure the key is off whenever you unplug a connector at the computer.

If these are clean and good, then check the fuses.

If still nothing, you might have to either take in to a dealer and have them run a diagnostic check on it, or buy a good service manual and try it yourself. Those inst. clusters do fail sometimes.....

Does the bike have a Power Commander on it?

If the bike has a stock exhaust header on it, and you ever decide to upgrade, let me know. I would be very interested in buying your stocker.

I 100% agree with Buzz, its a wire harness connector issue, a bad or corroroed connection inside of the connector terminals, use a small-soft brass wire brush and spray brake cleaner and clean out the harness plug terminals, then apply generous amounts of "DI-ELECTRIC GREASE" to the terminals then plug back together untill that grease oozezes out.
The Di-Electric grease will insure a good electrical connection, stop corroision and make the connections water and moisture proof.
any auto parts store sells it, the best is in a spray can with a straw nozzel with the brand name of "CRC"
the first thing I do when I buy a new ATV is unplug all my wiring harness plug connectores and apply Di-Electric Grease

Thanks for your advices they are very useful, but it is more complicated than what you had described,

I had followed your procedure and I was able to bring the Tacho meter, singal lights etc back to life, (u r genius) but the MPH and odometer, speepdomter just ignores me no matter what, they still do not want move. any idea, I had checked my speed sensor which goes right into the engine, and it is firmly plugged, I did remove the seat, but I did not find anything that speed or MPH related and I did not remove the tank for checking, any thoughts that might be somehow related?

So everything works but the speedo/odo meter? Does the display show 'O' or is it just blank?

The speedo sensor connection is under the tank. Just keep the seat off it, remove the 2 bolts holding the tank down at the front and it should pivot upwards. There is probably even a bent rod clipped into the tailsection with the tool kit. Stick one end in the steering stem hole and the other end through an empty bolthole in the front of the tank and find the speedo sensor connector. Clean it like you did the others and hope for the best.

The service manual has a procedure for testing the sensor itself. You might want to think about getting a multimeter and a service manual. It's full of handy info to track down and fix things like this.
