Ninja 250 or 600

#1 Unread post by kawigirl »

Hello.

I got my M2 last year but looking for a bike this year. I've definitely been looking at the Ninja 250R. My bf just got one and I've been riding it a little bit but I'm thinking I might want to go with the Ninja 600R.

I just don't know whether to start off with the 250 and work myself up or just start with the 600 right away and enjoy that beast :P

:welcome: to TMW!

Please please please consider starting with the 250. The smaller bikes are so much easier to learn on and really so much fun! The 600 will be better to ride after a few years experience.

I started on an old 400 (low HP) and really enjoyed getting used to riding without worrying about too much power. When a rider is first starting out there is so much to learn and get used to that it's easier to get off to a safe start if he/she doesn't have to stress about the power of the bike.

Bikes are fast and can be dangerous, so give yourself a good start to make sure you don't get into trouble early on.

No question the Ninja 250. It will be plenty good enough for the new rider. The Ninja 250 is actually a great bike with very decent power unlike the cruiser 250s. Also if you do outgrow it, they are very high demand/high resale bikes in the used bike market so you are not going to be stuck with an albatross.

Brunette = 600
Blonde = 250

;)

Always start with the 250 no matter what. Many people have started on a bigger bike and survived but why take the risk? As a person that started on a 250 I can say I was very pleased. Not only did the bike have more than enough power to learn on it was REALLY easy to resell and I got back almost all of my money for it!

As a matter of fact I'm going to be in the market for a 250 again soon because my girl wants to start riding too!

Sigh.
But the ZX6R looks soo nice! Especially in red... haha

But yeah, it seems like the 250 will be better off...I rode the cbr 125 during my test and that seemed quite fast already so the 250 will probably be a good choice. I've just heard that you'd get bored of it quickly...although these were all guys telling my this so they're probably just going in over their heads and don't even know the true power of it.

i have another problem though. :frusty: my boyfriend got a motorcycle recently and all he's been doing is talking about it, buying things for it, and riding it. it's like now i'm only second best. i love motorcycles and i want to get one for myself but he seems to be taking the excitement away from me as he's doing all these things by himself since i don't have my own yet. it's really frustrating to have someone that only talks to you about anything who suddenly only talks about his own motorcycle. i want to get one so bad but just don't have the money for it at this point. Should I continue being angry because i'm really getting jealous that he's enjoying one of my dreams without me...?

I have a CBR 125 :) and I'm a guy. Great starter bike. I chose it because I could get one for brand new 2500 on sale (still is 2008 model year) with a 2 year warranty. Most used bikes I looked at were the same price or more. So I went with the new bike and warranty. I spent the extra and upgraded to a 5 year warranty. If you do get bored of it and sell it. You should have an easier time as the warranty goes with the bike. Get most if not all of the money you spent on it back.

Choose what is right for you and you alone. I'd rather be bored and alive then excited and dead.

don't sweat it, i think it's a testosterome thing with the most of us, and while it may be annoying now, usually the intensity will begin to fade faster than you expect. Hell I just bought a new full size pickup truck fully loaded with 4wd everything I ever wanted and i swear my fiance was ready to kill me some nights if I had kept going on and on about how awesome it was one. But two months later, I still love the thing, but now she drives it almost everyday and I'm stuck riding the motorbike to work... :( 8)

Next time people tell you that you will get bored of a 250 quickly ask them which 250 they started on. They will probably say "Well I didn't START on a 250 but my uncles cousins SISTER has a daughter whose son bought a 250 and yeah they got bored of it quickly." I'm sure this person knows someone whose seen bigfoot as well.

I think that human beings by nature will be jealous or anxious. I think the choice is whether you act upon it. I'd say try not to be angry because you'll catch up to him eventually and he must be supportive of you since you are taking your course and eventually buying a bike and he isn't upset.

That said make sure to remind him once in a while that you want to talk about other things. Tell him you are happy he is enjoying his motorcycling and thrilled about the prospect of doing it with him but you need to talk about blank.

Before you buy any bike, be sure to check the cost of insurance. If you're under 25, the cost of insuring a 600 SS might shock you. Start with the 250 for sure. More practical financially and you will learn to ride a lot better on it too.
