I'd just like to know... when they opened up his coat, did they find the goods? I have mixed feelings about this. Shooting someone in the back, when there is no evidence of eminent threat to life, is wrong. However, freaking out and running from the cops in a subway station after bombs have already gone off in a subway is in some ways just asking for trouble. After all, that eminent threat to life could have been just a spark away in his coat. Like Ron, I just hope their judgment was sound.

there are no reports of this servant of allah being shot in the back but even if there were he got more warning than the 55 or so killed in the bomb blasts,not to mention the ones maimed for life.i hope they shoot some more of them anywhere they can front or back.

The most recent AP report is that the man was not in connection with the bombings, and police have said that it's an unfortunate turn of events. Again, I think he was somewhat dim for running, but you're judging him as though you know he's done something criminal. These "them" to whom you refer... do you mean the terrorists, Muslims, or what?

sad situation. maybe 9000white if you have kids and one day your kid were shoot in this same manor(not that i wish that on anyone) youd have a different level of compassion? after all the guys only crime here was not stopping for the cops. we see that all the time, its not uncommon for someone to be scared and run. obviously these guys thought he was a terrorist maybe they threatned to kill him in his jail cell or who knows what to make the guy scared enough to run. maybe he had a warrent for something unrealated and didnt want to go to jail for it. maybe he doesnt speak english well? he could have herd 'bomb' and thought a bomb was on the bus so he ran, point is You dont know why he ran. to condem him to death for it is sad.

you cant shoot someone because of a certain 'look' they have. even worse lets say yes the guy had a bomb he had it rigged holding the trigger, by shooting him he releases the trigger and everyone blows up. you need to chase him and negotiate. according to the one story posted they had him down on the ground contained but still felt the need to shoot him to death?

its not like you can walk down the street and see 'terrorist' they dont have any distinctive features.

Just heard on the news - he was a Brazilian immigrant who did not speak English. Brazilian - hmmm, my guess is he was Catholic.

I feel a bit sensitive to comments made by 9000white, only because after 9-11, while we were living in Chicago, many of our arabic and/or muslim citizens were treated harshly and judged at every turn. Friends of ours included. It's a sad world when paranoia over one situation determines how we treat others because they physically resemble the perpetrators. I suppose now Brazilian dark skin can be seen the same as Arabic dark skin, and not stopping is reason enough for a few bullets in your back.

ya like i said, poor guy didnt know what they were yelling at him to stop. he probally had an ipod and thats the wires they saw and thought 'not white + wires = terrorist with a Bomb!'.

profiling is never right, and a man paid his life to show those small minded people how wrong it is. just because someone doesnt appear white like you are doesnt make them the enemy. at the same time theres plenty of white people that are involved in bombings as well.

i wonder if 9000white will post again on this subject.

to top it all off i just read the cops were plain clothes(no uniform). so yea the guy herd people yelling at him probally waving guns, no idea they are cops i wouldnt stop either. once on the ground the shot him 5 times in the Head and back. then the cops blame terrorism for this 'incident'. his family should sue the english govt. for billions.

i saw the police quoted saying this incident wasnt the polices fault instead they try to blame 'terrorist'... pathetic i think, kill an innocent man because they made a mistake and now try to blame terrorist instead of taking responsibility for their mistake. because the guy had dark skin that gave the police the 'shoot to kill' policy?

what next anyone speeding in london must surely be a terrorist on the way to blow something up so police must envoke the shoot to kill policy? or maybe people parked illegal should also be shot as they certainly are terrorist. why not just line up all non white people and shoot them now to save the risk of a bombing?

however i am done with this thread, its gone beyond reason to accept shooting someone because of skin color then justify it after finding out he was 100% innocent saying his death is a tactic to scare would be criminals.

Geez, 9000WHITE - First off, the mayor made those statements before the shooting. I bet you anything he's laying in bed tonight contemplating his opinion and his statement. I could be a terrorist - or at least... they have as much on me as on that Brazilian guy, which is nothing! Should I be shot too? And Mao?! You've got to be kidding. Is Chairman Mao someone we should idolize or something? Half the time you sound like you're a member of the KKK, and now you're saying that Chairman Mao's quote makes sense to you? So which is it? - white supremacy or communism?

Your opinions are the very reason it took our government so long to figure out what was up with Timothy McVey. Okay, there's been a bombing, so first we need to seek out all the Arabic looking folks. Never mind the crazy white dudes running around.

Fact is... the world is full of fundamental extremists who come in all colors, from all corners of the earth, and who subscribe to differing religions. This guy was profiled incorrectly by plain-clothed cops and shot to death for nothing more than being afraid.

What saddens me most is that you're not able, even after facts are presented, to back pedal yourself and see that you too are mistaken. You are harshly judgmental, and it's because of folks like you that this world will never be able to advance past war, paranoia, and destruction of innocent lives.
