And of course, I'm going to take the safety course before I even sit on the Motorcycle. Besides buying, I'm worried about the insurance. I hear that young people have more insurance and even more if no experience riding it. Although insurance could depend on many other factors. But I hope mine won't be like $1000-2000 a year.

I am in Quebec, I have a SV650 sport, which is close to a sports bike, is one the very expensive bikes, insurance wise, and my insurance is 635$ a year... The Ninja 650 of my friend costs him about 375$ a year. My car costs me 1100$ a year.

So I'd say my bike ain't that expensive...

I had the same situation, I had my bike licence years before my car licence (about 10 years before in fact).

I felt that a bike was more fun, cheaper on gas and insurance and since I lived in Toronto I could take the TTC (bus) anywhere I couldn't get on the bike or if I need to pick something up I couldn't fit on a bike.

And not all of Canada is the Great Frozen North. Everybody should have realized that after the Winter Olympics.
It got the nickname of the "Spring Olympics" Vancouver is pretty warm for how far north it is. I have a friend who lives there, she has to go to up to whistler to see actual snow.

The next winter olympics is going to be even warmer. Sochi Russia is in a tropical climate (as in palm trees, year round warm/humid temps, etc), the snow is in the mountains about 60 miles away.

April-November is actually a pretty good riding season for that far north. Riding season here is May-October at low elevations, June-September for the mountains, you might be able to sneak out a little in April.

Having only a motorcycle license would be fine in a city where you have access to public transportation. Though having the car license is handy too.
