Thanks. It was a selling feature for Mrs. High_Side.

One thing that is definitely a step backwards is access to the battery. Six pages in the manual and it is still a byatch to do (I working on it today, thus the frustration)

It can't be as a biotch as it is on the R1150R. The battery lives under the gas tank on that bike. :rant: Regardless there's no reason for naked bikes like these to have regular maintenance items like a battery so inaccessible.

Under the tank you say? BOTH Monsters have their batteries under the tank, but the old school one has a latch at the front of the tank that releases it and it conveniently lifted up. The new one has a many a finicky little screw with backing inserts that fall in to the crevaces of the engine with a heart-breaking clinky-clink sound (also known as the better-get-the-wife-and-her-eagle-eyes-out-to-the-garage-for-1/2-an-hour type of sound). Both have nothing on the Sport Classic. That battery case was in front of the rear wheel, which should be easy enough but it wasn't. BY the time I had gotten around to messing with the battery though I already knew that I had made a mistake and I wouldn't own it for long....so I didn't bother. Ducatis are getting harder and harder to work on.....and why does it have to be that way?????

And then there's the Superduke.... :rant:

all I can say about the dropping of bolts and screws is my retractable magnet with flashlight RULES at finding em :D.

The battery for the FZ6 is under the gas tank too. But rather fortunately, it isn't that hard to get to, but not nearly as easy as being under the seat.

Oh, definitely, it was the highest line bike that I'm talking about. It is the only one with the major electronics. For me - being a techie - its only 1/2 of the bike without the major electronics. :)

The R1150R has oil coolers attached to either side of the gas tank as well so those have to be disconnected along with all the other cr@p in the way.
One of the more heinous of crimes commited by the engineers at Bay Em Vay is having the fuel filter reside inside the gas tank. :frusty:

You got rid of the SC because of maintenance difficulties?

Yeah you mentioned the SD before. I didn't realize it was so hard to maintain.

Ducati has perfected the same crime......with the SC and the new Monster. Is the Hyper not that way?

Nope. I got rid of it 'cause it had the worst suspension on any bike since my '83 Nighthawk, and the fuelling sucked. I later found out that it was well known that it needed $1800 worth of Termis and ECU to make it actually run. A major letdown after the S2R and VTR1000.

Just the battery. Like most bikes though, once you get used to it things are too bad. After years of popping off the seat to pull the battery out of my Hondas, it just seems like they should all be so easy.

I dunno. I have not even thought of the fuel filter yet on the Hyper. I only have about 4300 miles on it. When is it supposed to be changed?

I didn't know about the suspension woes. I know the fueling sucked as the fat duc originated for that bike. Speaking of the fat duc, I just ordered the 02 manipulator from them. Can't wait to try it. :kicking: It does surge a little at low rpms so hopefully this will smooth it out. It's stock other than the Leo Vince cat eliminator.
