Beginner bike question.

Yes! It just proves that I'm not the only goof out there in the world. I tell folks that I just started riding 20 months ago, but the reality is, I took one ride back when I was 16. I was seeing this guy who had both a dirt bike and a cruiser. I was way too short for the dirt bike, but I insisted that I could do okay on the cruiser. The number 600 cc's comes to mind with the cruiser, but I didn't know anything then, so I'm not sure. Anyway, the fool let me take it for a ride after showing me a couple of basics. As soon as I laid on the throttle, the bike shot out and I took a pretty severe fall. Thus the reason for safety training.

I wouldn't get the Ducati Monster 620 as a first bike...maybe a second bike. The difference is that a japanese bike can handle anything you throw at it. Just put oil and gas and itll run. Ducatis..along with everything else made in Italy (including the women ) require a lot of attention, they've got to be kept tip-top and if something is off just a little bit, it'll make sure you know about it....and we all know about the cost of italian parts and labor! ...but if your friend has the money, its a beautiful bike!

It's true. It took me 20 more years to saddle up, but it was worth the wait.

So an update, i was talking to him tonight and he was telling me that he decided he wants either a ninja 500 or a GS500e

I'm uber glad, cause he's a cool guy and i want him around a while, plus my other roomates would be pissed if i got 1/4th of the rent dead...

He also told me that he wants nothing to do with the bike till he takes a MSF course, i think he's gonna do fine.
