How can a Liter twin sportbike not be twitchy as hell off the line? I always found Inline 4s to be a tad softer off the line than twins (but the 4 is absolutely explosive when it comes on the cam). I love the surge of torque and the sound of the twins though, 4 cylinders get you into trouble in their fun rpm range
I am trying to find a reasonably priced TL1000 or SV1000 for my next bike, maybe a superhawk or interceptor if I can find em for a good price.

Actually my buddy's Aprilia RSV 1000R was a pussycat around town. Rode like a GS500 under 5K rpm. When it got past that, it started to get twitchy, and at 8K it went "Oh, so NOW you want to play huh?"

I'll agree, it is twitchy off the line on the RVT until about 3500 - 4k . Once I get to 5k and up she starts to wake up ! The gear driven cams sound so good, love 'em!!

The Hypermotard is real abrupt in first gear. In fact, on my ride home from the dealership after taking delivery, I just flicked the throttle just a tiny smidgen in first gear and it popped a 30 degree wheelie. Not what I wanted to do on a fresh bike that is not even broken in yet.

I do recall reading about people wheeling unintentionally and crashing the Hypermotard on demo rides when the bike was first introduced.

Yet, one of the more popular mods to this bike from the crazy guys at the Ducati forum is going down one tooth down on the front sprocket.

Definitely not a beginner's bike.

Hope you don't mind a quite late response. My son rides a SuperHawk, I ride a CBR1000F, and son #2 rides a VFR. On our last trip, 350 to 500 miles per day, the SuperHawk son was in severe pain at the end of each day. It's a fun bike for short rides and great for riding twisties, but lousy for touring. It just isn't built for that. Also, he's lucky to get 35 mpg while we're getting 42 to 45.
