Bullshit! Half the worlds oxygen is produced by Phytoplankton in the ocean. Do you breath? Ok then you are sustained by the ocean. Im sure there are many many more connections as well. The food chain would not survive without a healthy ocean.ofblong wrote:God said humans are more important. Plus I dont eat or drink anything out of the ocean so if it dies I wont be out anything because I am not sustained by any Ocean. Humans are way more important than some duck.Triumphgirl wrote:Yes it is tragic that people died too. But, to down grade the other species that share our earth to a lesser importance is disheartening to me. The dolphins, sea turtles and other LIFE are dying. Thing is what "People" dont understand is the importance of our oceans. If the oceans life dies...we die. And where in creation does it say that humans are worth more? We have overstated our worth and importance, and ruined the planet for our own greed. And lets not forget that it may be the largest US oilspill in history, but the gulf is also shared by many other countries that will be affected by this catastropy.dean owens wrote: what makes me mad in the whole situation is the little attention that has been given the 11 PEOPLE who died when this happened. i recognize right now the focus is fixing the leak... but these were people. not birds, or fish, or shrimp... people.

because I have faith in god and the bible states it in between its numerous pages.
Fireguzzi I have never heard that before and its actually trees that provide the most oxygen.

So you believe everything written in the bible to be a fact?
You are forgetting that 70% of our planet is ocean and only 30% is terra firma.ofblong wrote: Fireguzzi I have never heard that before and its actually trees that provide the most oxygen.

Phytoplankton account for up to 90% of the world's oxygen production. Some of the oxygen produced by phytoplankton is absorbed by the ocean, but most flows into the atmosphere where it becomes available for oxygen dependent life forms such as umm....humans.

Yeah fireguzzi, marinebio.org is the one that states phytoplankton account for up to 90% of the world's oxygen production. I always thought it was 50% like you stated originally....but what marinebio says makes sense. It state that the majority of the oxygen produced by the ocean enters the atmosphere, so in the end it is about 50% of the oxygen that we breathe on land comes from the ocean but indeed up to 90% total oxygen consumed by the planet(ocean and terra firma) does come from phytoplankton.

Ok well I learned something then. I thought it was only 30% (thus why I said I had never heard his claim before). Hyperr evertying in the bible is fact and alot of it has been proven to be fact including the story of NOAH.

Re: B.P. and the Gulf spill?
I would hate this to turn into a religious argument. As I do not support any religion, and we wont get into that because, well as it is the reason for why most wars and hate start. I believe in a higher power, call it God, Buddha, Muhommed. The fact of the matter there will be no divine intervention to "right the wrongs" we have done to the planet. And for those who believe that it will not affect the other countries the share the gulf are not taking into consideration that water flows around, mixes and mingles with the other countries water...
and with hurricane season approaching in the gulf, I would imagine that some of those incredible forces of wind will swirl that oil and water mixture all over the place. Anyway the point is moot. The damage is done and continuing. And all life started on this planet from the oceans...including humankind...God told me.
