FLAMING
FLAMING
Man I've been at this site for a couple hours now and I see that it has some really great info. But much of it is hidden by people flaming one another. I really believe that all this flaming truely hurts the website. Anybody feel the same as me or am I in a different world (or forum)?

I feel the same as you. There's a lot of people here that will vigorously defend their positions on certain stances. And that's fine. It would be pretty boring if we all agreed with one another. But once the back and forth starts with the 'you're wrong', and 'what about when you said this', or 'that's what I'd expect from someone who....', that's when I tune out. There's a lot of smart people here and lots of riders with more experience than me and I've learned a lot from people who don't share my opinions. You can usually filter through the trash to get the good stuff. It would be nice if we could just post our opinions without feeling the need to defend our honor when someone doesn't agree. Correcting a factual error is one thing, but some folks take it very personally when people don't agree with something that is entirely subjective in nature and that just seems a bit silly to me. Anyway, this board is moderated pretty darn well and if people truly get out of hand and start getting personal or way off topic they usually step in. There's a bit of bickering, but all in all it's a great board with some really interesting and knowledgeable members so I hope you stick around.

There is always the potential for things to get heated here. It's mostly over Harley vs. the world, and issues of safety. Still, I've seen much, much worse on other web sites. My husband was hanging out at a site for sports bikes, and these guys were awful. Name slinging, outright insults, threats, etc... Most of our issues here either get resolved or they at least dissipate into something along the lines of... we agree to disagree.

Actually, I believe this board has a very select membership
. It just worked out that way, and I really enjoy it. In my line of work (solid waste disposal...Garbage business), I hear things that are just wrong for people to say to anyone. The internet is a cross-section of humanity, and I really am amazed at the civility here, compared to other places, (including my customer base
.) Another good site for vintage Kawasaki folks is KZRIDER.com. Overall a very well-behaved bunch.
You're right, sometimes a flame war erupts. Here in the real world, it's bound to happen. We can all just do our best to keep it real, here in this anonymous environment, where that very fact can spur the courage of a very undesireable element. I thank God that element runs from here whenever it appears...the members of this site drive it out, post haste.

I'm fighting Brake malfunctions this week. Spent 1 hour splicing a hard to reach hose in 100 degree heat, only to find a valve also blew, but I couldn't hear it until the hose was fixed. End result, lousy brakes...STILL! This is why I like it here!

Freightliner Fl70 with Leach alpha 20 yard body...One truck, it's just me now. My business is slowly being eaten by very large companies with undercut pricing. Two of these own their landfill, so I am going to have to find a different line of work in the next few months. Can't sell off...they can just take what they want with the pricing from the early 90's. This is sortof like what happens to grocery stores when Wal Mart builds in a small town.
I'm procrastinating crawling between the axles to fix this valve..gotta do it before I run today, and I'm sick to boot, so i'm doing this for a little while with acup of Java. OOps! Thread hijack
