Can’t shift while idling
I own a 1997 Daelim Magma (Korean bike) and I think the clutch is going out on it. I am having trouble shifting the bike while stopped at a stoplight, idling. And once in a while it will slip out of gear when accelerating after a stoplight. I have had the bike for six months now and this trouble has started being an issue for the last month or so. I have no problem shifting while the bike is in motion. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Joe

What do you mean shifting at a stoplight? You mean putting it in neutral or first gear?

Sorry, I mean putting it into first gear. For example if I was stopping really quick for a stoplight and was in 4th gear and didn't have time to shift all the way down to neutral while the bike was still moving and tried to complete the shift while the bike is stopped then I try to put it in first gear when it is time to go, it will slip out of gear.HYPERR wrote:What do you mean shifting at a stoplight? Re: Can’t shift while idling
There is nothing wrong with your bike.
There really is no reason why you have to stop so suddenly for a stoplight. You should be more attentive.

I didn't know that, I had imagined the traffic in South Korea to be quite civilized.
I suppose you can pull in the clutch right before stopping and shift down quickly all the gears with the clutch pulled in while you are still moving.

I have done this. Try Rocking the bike back and forth will make it pop into gear at least it did for me

Re: Can’t shift while idling
if it doesn't work with the clutch pulled in all the way. Let it out ever so slighty to the point where you think the bike is going to stall then pull it in all the way again all the while trying to down shift.
you're welcome.

Re: Can’t shift while idling
and when he says back and forth, he means FORWARD and BACK - not right and left. That does it for me sometimes too
still recovering - back to crutches, then walking with a stick, then running - then hopefully riding again!
