Aftermarket pipes illegal in Quebec ?!?!
So I decided I needed to clear my head so taking a solo road trip to Gaspe (from Ottawa). On day 4 after stops in montreal and quebec city, I'm enjoying a sunny ride across to Rimouski when I see cherries lit a few cars back. He catches up to me and files in ... I was following traffic so a bit confused but pull over. He opens with "I pulled you over for your muffler. Your bike is illegal". Takes out a camera and measuring tape and measure my pipes and documents them and then leaves to his cruiser. Comes back with a fine and warning never to drive in Quebec again. I was like "dude, I'm 800kms from the border and expected to go 200kms deeper before turning and heading home. He said "take your chances and explain the situation to the next guy who pulls you over - he'll probably let you go if it's under a week". So I left, did my tour and heading home now. But I'm kind of steamed. My bike is loud but I was told when I bought it that it was legally loud. It's a Harley Deuce with dual python pipes. Anyone else have issues? Did I just bump into a hater? I kind of want to fight it in case I hit another guy down the road - if it were a repeat offence he could be a total PITA. Or maybe I write off Quebec as a riding destination. Comments?
P.s. The road from St Simeon to Baie St Paul is wicked fun
Thx

It was on hwy 20 - so assuming SdQ ... The ticket say SdQ - and the "crime" reads:
Proprietaire dun vehicule non muni dun systeme dechappement conforme aux normes
To me that seems wicked loose - and something any officer could arbitrarily zine you with if you don't have full factory exhaust

Seems like you weren't the only one:

eh, I'd figure that I would venture into Montreal once on my motorcycle once I got my Passport... now I'm not so sure.

One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

I guess that means it's up to you to figure out whatever Quebec standard your exhaust isn't complying with. SdQ ain't gonna help - they already got what they wanted: revenue!!!!Rogero wrote:Proprietaire dun vehicule non muni dun systeme dechappement conforme aux normes

Re: Aftermarket pipes illegal in Quebec ?!?!
Welcome to K-Bec. Historically, they have never been motorcycle friendly - hell, I can remember getting hassled by the QPP back in '81 when I was stationed there - and they are quick to enforce the laws no matter who you are or what you are riding. I have heard Python pipes on Harleys before, so you get no sympathy from me on this one - he lit up the pretty lights from a few cars back because HE COULD HEAR YOU FROM BACK THERE. Quebec has had enough with loud pipes and they are aggressively enforcing noise laws. And mark my words, Ontario is next.
Believe it or not, the only thing that saved you from a more serious penalty is your Ontario plate. They know you won't show up for a court date, so you get a fine instead and they hope you won't come back. So unless you put the stock mufflers back on, I'd seriously recommend that you do not visit La Belle Province again.

Re: Aftermarket pipes illegal in Quebec ?!?!
Im not suprised the ticket is in french only.
I took one trip through Quebec years ago, that was enough.
The general impression I got is outsiders, especially non-french speakers are NOT welcome.
On the other hand I found Ontario to be very friendly.
