you need some reading skills and common sense. No where was I "selling" my religious views. Instead I was presenting facts about WHY I believe what I believe. I was in no way trying to tell someone they should agree with me.

Read what you just wrote. You state "I was in no way trying to tell someone they should agree with me". Yet you state that your beliefs and assertions are facts. I would call that a contradiction. Or was that a Freudian slip?

That being said, I think when Hondagirl asked, "does anyone really want to know about anyone elses religious views?", I don't think it was aimed particularly at you. Others, including myself was involved in this discussion and I'm sure she asked it as a rhetorical question.

ofblong ~ I do have common sense thx, lots of it which is why I dont believe in folktales and stories passed down by word of mouth -oral tradition-for centuries before they were written down. Wasnt it like 1000 years before the final version appeared? I would never ever disagree with the values, and selfless deeds of a real good hearted Christian person however, which Im sure you are.

Seems like this leak is causing something of an international incident. Mr "shineyface" Cameron appears to have been on the back foot during his visit to Mr "Smiley" Obama, (two of the oiliest politicians around at present). He's been trying to defend BP, it seems (claiming that it is essential to everyone the company stay "strong and stable") while pacifying the hounds in the US Senate. What a laugh! Who says politicians are not simply the representatives of big business.

At least it would be a laugh if my pension fund was not partly invested in BP. I haven't had the courage to look and see what has happened to it recently - me and thousands of others like me! Loads of people I know have already seen their pensions go down the drain in the UK. It never ceases to amaze me the number of mad ways we dream up to organise our affairs. As usual, this thing has repercussions way beyond those whose livelihoods are directly affected by the spill, human or otherwise. Sigh!

People keep asking was BP in any way "negligent" in its operations? Interesting question. (What does that mean in practical terms, I wonder?) Whatever it means, I'm damned sure that the company didn't do any more than it had to to meet legislative requirements. The blaming and scapegoating, defending and manipulating will now go on for years, as all parties try to gain as much or lose as little as possible over this. The lawyers will make a killing; investors will skedaddle quickly to cut their losses, speculators will dive in to see what they can find among the wreckage of the tourist and fishing industries, and Joe Bloggs will be left to pick up the pieces, as usual.

We also have a pension fund here in Canada. We pay into it for our whole working lives. However...most people still need to save for their retirement because the pension isn't great. Some people retire and start collecting pensions and they go get a part time job. I will probably be one of those. I can picture myself making popcorn at the movie theatres.

Yeah we have that too, it's called Social Security and it's beyond broke. Currently 2% of every one of my paychecks goes to it and there is not a single doubt in my mind that I will never see a penny of that when I retire.
